Myles, two thoughts.

First, perhaps we should allow unlimited editing, rather than the 60 minutes? The reason I say this is that there have been instances when someone has been a little...er.... tired and emotional and has posted something they'd like to remove - or to at least edit to say 'sorry, everyone - no offence intended '.

Second - if we feel it necessary to remove a posting, can I suggest that we at least put a 'sorry, post removed because it contravenes rule...' in, so that people know why it's gone?

Actually, a third thought - How about a sticky thread 'By Order of the Management' laying out the rules? Probably advisible to make clear that anything libellous will go - but what else? The stupid C4 rule about not using asterisks to hide rude words no, but I assume that we're not going to let the 'You're all C***ts, so F*** off the Lot of You' thread (without the asterisks), very late of the C4 Parish make a reappearance here without at least editing the offending words.

Initially i had it setup as unlimited but the problem with that is two people maybe having an argument and one person edits what they posted, to pretend that they never said something that they have said, thus leaving the other person who replied looking stupid and subsequently having to edit their posts and so on. Everyone will just end up editing their posts to the start of the argument and it'll turn into a bit of a mess. Everyone would constantly have to read previous posts to ensure their replies make sense. I just figured on 60 minutes so it give people enough time to edit large posts. What you reckon, suppose it could be set to unlimited and if it got messy it could be changed back to 60 minutes or whichever.

There isn't an option to insert an automatic message in place of deleted posts.

Thirdly, i've set the word sensor to automatically insert astrisks for c**t and f**k and a few variations. I don't see a need to ban words like bollox, bastard, arse or wanker but that could be perception, but then where do we stop, do we allow crap and hell. We'll only end up like the C4 forum.
We don't really want to be putting sticky's on the forum about rules and telling people what they can and can't do, the only reason we had it for the MPC championship is so the threads wouldn't get deleted with everyones predictions lost.
But you're right, i think a forum on the home page just stating that no porn links, personal attacks and you accept by entering that you are 16 years old or supervised by an adult if younger.
I don't mind people posting links to other forums though. If people see they can post anything (bar porn), then they'll stay and post without fear that their post may be deleted, that'll only stiffle debate and that's what happened to the C4 forum, anything slightly argumentative on that forum now and it gets deleted.

The function allowing guests to post and reply has been switched off so you'll need to login now if you want to post.

It was annoying some people, I kept posting as guest like a big feckin eejit!

The opposite qualifications you need to become a C4 mod.

If anyone wants to be a mod, you can go to the Usergroups tab in the menu at the top of the page and request it there, i'll reserve you a seat verno

Another thought - we need to post a warning that members should be wary about giving out their personal details, as other users may be unscrupulous and seek to exploit these. The membership so far is grown up enough to know this, of course, but others might not. Also, it should say that this site cannot be held responsible for anything that may result from failing to heed this warning.

Perhaps we should make it policy that only e-mails can be exchanged and that we will - regretfully - delete any posting of telephone numbers and home addresses. Apologies for more worthiness, but it strikes me that we ought to have this in our terms and conditions as well for the purposes of keeping the forum's ar$e covered.

Sounds like a good idea.

There's also the private messaging thing people can use if they want to swop numbers or addresses, but we should also remind them that they do this at their own risk...

The forum is set to GMT, however seems to be an hour behind, anyone else experiencing this?

The UK is currently running on BST, which is an hour ahead of GMT upon which the forum is running. Therefore, all posts are an hour behind....

Did I imagine it, or were we on the GMT+1 setting this afternoon? We seem to have reverted to GMT this evening if we were.
