This Bonucci stuff has to be bollocks surely at those figures?

Quote:
I thought that too Liam, but the more that emerges the more it looks like it's happening. The figures are pathetic 40mill, euros at that, for a guy for who we turned down 60mill just last year!

If he was going to an EPL team he's be leaving for 85m...

I would be sad to see him go, he's one of my favourite players. Maybe he wants to go, maybe he wants a challenge.

I'd make the following assumptions on this:
- Bonucci has fallen out with Allegri.
- Bonucci insisted on joining Milan and therefore they're the only offer on the table.
- He wants to join Milan partly because of said fall out, but also for a new challenge and maybe likes the idea of helping them become a force again.
- Faced with an unhappy player who'll only go to Milan, a below market rates offer has had to be accepted.

I'd have still put my foot down more and demanded Romagnoli, but maybe there was no willingness on his part to move.

I feel pissed off at Bonucci, but it won't last.  He's given 7 years service and has developed from an inconsistent youngster to one of the best defenders in the world.  He's won 6 Scudetti and played a vital part in restoring Juve to a European force.  He should be thanked for that as the Juve he joined was very different to this one.  In fact it was much more like the present Milan side, possibly worse.

To replace him it has to be an outstanding defender like Godin (May not be possible, but just throwing in a name), or a younger player with massive potential (like Romagnoli even though that idea seems unlikely).

This weakens the team right now, but as always time will tell whether it was a good decision or not.  I've seen great players leave Juve before, whether it be Vieri and Zidane a long time ago, or Tevez and Pogba more recently, and things have been alright.  Marotta, Paratici and co have earned our trust over years of excellent moves.

You guys get players from other teams all the time.  Higuain, Pjanic. etc.. that force their way out of their respective teams.

Sh!t happens

I'm not that fussed about Bonucci leaving. Clearly something happened earlier in the year with Allegri and then in the final with his team mates. The club and team come first. Individuals come and go, they get replaced and we carry on. Legends stay and the club remains.

However, it's bloody frustrating that the club didn't cash in properly. Who gives a crap where he wanted to go? He was under a long contract so we sell him to the highest bidder if we choose to. When the hell do you ask the player 'hey man where do you fancy playing next season? Oh one of our rivals in our league? Oh cool, we'll make it happen". That on Juve's part is ridiculous. Out of contract, buyout clause etc, fair enough you have no control. But when you are in control....

Regardless, onwards and upwards!

He's replaceable.

Marotta should have sold him to the highest bidder regardless of the players wishes, and Marotta needs to stop broadcasting at every opportunity that players can go if they wish.

We know, we've seen players ask to leave Juve before, see my last post with the likes of Pogba and Tevez, as well as Zidane a long time ago.  The only difference with this one is that it's to another Italian side, which I'm not sure has happened with a key player since Farsopoli.

Anyway Mandzukic claims there was a fight between Bonucci and Dani Alves on the day of the CL final which no doubt had the potential to unsettle everyone.  Whilst Alves received almost universal praise towards the end of the season, I always felt he was a liability defensively, and that includes in the final.  His personality was also an issue.

I hope the club has made the right decision on this one, and it seems that as well as the desire of the player, the unity of the squad was a concern.

The Mandzukic story is apparently a fake, but I still feel Alves was a problem, and that there were issues with Bonucci from the other news being reported.

Totally agreed on both counts! Should have gone to the highest bidder, end of. And this crap about players leaving if they wish! For F@#ks sake you're a big club again, behave like one!!

That mandzukic story has been debunked, however something definitely happening during or before that final, Alves and Bonucci were certainly at the centre of it. Juve usually have zero tolerance on ego and stuff like that, their actions seem to be self explanatory in that context. .... but still they should have exiled Bonucci to the highest damn bidder!

What's this nonsense about Juve buying other teams players like we're the only ones? We buy and we sell like every single other club in the world. We are no worse than Bayern, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Celtic etc etc.

I just wish we had sold him to an English club, we'd have double the money. Man City for a start should be kicking themselves, he is exactly the defender they are crying our for.

Anyway, good luck to him, We'll cope, we'll most likely win the league again and he can watch our champions leagues games on the telly.

Another thing, Marotta should have bought a top defender before selling Bonucci, instead now everyone knows we definitely need a replacement and up their prices accordingly. You can't show your hand like that.

Yep. Too right Myles. We should have spent the 40m on Matic after
A positive medical and then recouped the Bonucci proceeds.

I pretty much share all of your opinions on the Bonucci saga, but Im done with it now.

Im not sure about this De Sciglio talk. It looks like a done deal at this stage. Ive never really seen what all the hype about him was about, hes always looked average enough to me. But i trust in Allegri if he has given the green light for that transfer.

Id much prefer we went all in and spent big on that Cancelo lad from Valencia, much like we went big for Sandro two years ago instead of paying 10-12 mil on an average player. Full backs are as important as strikers in my opinion, cant skimp on that area of the pitch.

And keep Lichsteiner for crying out loud!!!!!!

Ray, Re Cancelo, he divides opinion from what I can see but I agree with you. He.'d add much needed depth to the defence.

I'm happy with De Sciglio.  He seems to have lost his way the last couple of years, but he showed promise before then.  I think he needs a change of environment to get back on track.

So now the Shick transfer has fallen through. The ridiculous summer gets more ridiculous!

They best not mess around in Bernadeschi for too long!

Agreed on De Sciglio, he should do well, he's still young enough to deliver on the potential Milan have been wasting the last few years.

Should also keep Licht, just like last season he'll step in when needed and deliver.

Manolas? Should be good enough to add to the defensive roster? Getting peeved at us haggling again like some small time club... offering Caudrado and not much else. You just sold your best defender, you're not in a freakin position to haggle.

Pity about Schick, but in fairness to Marotta it's not his fault he failed the medical.
He's a really good player, and has lots of potential on top of that so huge loss. He must be sick missing out on the transfer and also finding out he has a problem with his heart, though at least it was caught i guess.

De Sciglio might come good but he doesn't improve on the squad at all so how does that fit into the transfer strategy whereby we only buy players that improve the overall team. I guess it was done to appease Allegri, and maybe he knows how to get the best out of him so maybe, but i'm not excited either.

What happened to the 100m we got in the CL though?
Increased salaries or is there some big secret purchase?
