Actually that's a tricky part of the situation. Of the quallity strikers that are likely to become available (Benzema, Drogba, Berbatov etc), they would come very expensive, and I can't see Milan paying autrageous price for a striker. I like Amauri, and he could be a little cheaper than the rest. Which was why I can't help feeling sad when i remmeber Toni was 'in the bags', before we let him go to Bayern

Pato was fantastic!   Man, does he have some moves and quick feet.

The problem was in the midfield.  Emerson sucks, and with no Pirlo there was no movement.   Seedork was anon even before his injury.

You are right, Duncan about Pato. Agreed also about the mid. Sometimes I wonder why our attention has always been on getting additonal striker(s). We clearly need to upgrade the midfield as well.

If Mauri is unsettled at Lazio, I think he would be a good pickup for Milan.  He offers something a bit different than Ambro and Gattuso and is under 30.

As much as I'd like to gloat, I don't think there will be any teams from Milan in the next round.

Actually, you're fooked because you dont look like getting in it next year

I've always defended Ancelotti, but there's gotta be wholesale changes now. The question's been about for 3 or so years "is this Milan team too old?" and though tonight doesn't answer that alone, the last couple of years in the league do as well.

A change of face on the bench is needed, as well as bringing in proven but not too err, experienced players on the pitch. I'm stating the obvious here but now the season comes down to grabbing 4th place: a club of Milan's stature should not be relying on that as their saving grace.

Seedorf was missed tonight to provide that link between the back and front, but again, he needs to be replaced. I fear for all Italian clubs now, as Roma will have their backs to the wall tomorrow as well as Inter are in trouble for next week. Hopefully Fiorentina will have a good go of it Thursday.

Milan were schooled.   The midfield looked tired and overun, and Carlo did nothing to adjust to this.  Ambro was awful and should have come off for Gourcuff at HT.  Pirlo was crowded and looked just tired.  Gattuso played ok but waas overun.

Pato also should have come off at HT, as he looked a bit shaky.  Kaka was WAY off the pace and looked frustrated.

Inzaghi and Gila hardly sniffed the ball.

Actually I thought the Milan back 4 were awesome considering they were consistently running backwards from the 25 min mark on.  The goal was inevitable I felt as well

As SMS has said for awhile, Milan need some freshening up.  Maybe some Summer's Eve and a good few younger legs

I agree about the defence. It is the only department that did anything last night. Arsenal deserved their victory. Anyway, this is comign for sometime. Everyone knows that team has reached its peak - only way to go is down. Only morons like Galliani refused to believe that. In a way, this is a blessing. At least now changes are inevitable. The only sad thing is to go out in an embarrassing manner like this. And for Maldini to end his Europe career this way.

Kaka, Pato, Nesta, Gattuso are the only ones worth taking on. The rest should just go away

End of the line for Milan, Arsenal played an almost perfect passing game and Milan played on memories.

Fresh legs and ideas are required. If they don't get to C. league Ancelotti may go.

But starting afresh from Pato, Kaka, Gilardino, Gattuso, Nesta and Pirlo does not look to bad.

SERIOUSLY???

Milan have played 15 matches since the new year

FIFTEEN!

Arsenal played 11 and that includes throwing out C teams for Fizzy cup competitions.

Add to that the injury list that would shame a small hospital I think Milan did brilliantly to hold a so-called top team for 170 minutes.

Unlucky. It was great to see Maldini tear up the left side of the pitch like a youngster.

Arsenal were missing van Persie, Toure, Rosicky and Eduardo, so were hardly short of injuries themselves. This result was about far more than having played a few more matches than Arsenal since the turn of the year, and it would be disastrous for the club to think otherwise.

Milan played terribly. Pirlo, in particular, had the worst game I've ever seen him play.

However, all credit to Milan for the dignified way they accepted defeat. They may have been outclassed on the pitch, but the players (and fans) showed a lot of class by applauding Arsenal off the pitch. Maldini's reaction to Adebayor's goal was fantastic.

As an Arsenal fan I'm delighted, but it makes me sad that Maldini will end his final season (meaningful)-trophyless.

Can I ask a question of AC fans?

If you put aside last nights exit and the fact that you won the world super duper cup or whatever it is, why are you not worried that you (like juventus) cant seem to cut it in the domestic league like youre used to seeing?

Okay we got demoted but at least that gave us the chance to use young talent (for better or for worse).

As an observer, I would be extremely worried by Milan's average age of player plus the fact that they havent bought anyone except Pato.

Where has all of Berlusconi's cash gone?  Juve have always been neither massive or stingy spenders but I remember when AC used to buy some big names.

w'appenin?

No. I think the number of matches played is crucial, especially if you take into account the average age of the team. I can remember when we beat Manure last season, Alex said part of the reason is fatigue and injury.
