My sis went to Hong Kong this year and really enjoyed herself. Stayed in a v.posh hotel and said everything was first class.

How about Iceland ?

Good God, no... almost every single South African I've ever met has been a complete twat. They may be less minge-like in their own environment but I sure as shit ain't gonna find out.

The bird has been banging on about going to Hong Kong for a while now as a good friend of hers (and former colleague of mine) is working out there and has invited us over. For some reason though, I really don't fancy Hong Kong as it doesn't appeal in the slightest.

I lived in Thailand for six months back in the late 90's, so that one's off the list.

Mexico has crossed my mind, and Brazil I hadn't thought about yet so 'obrigado' for that one, Ferret.

So far, my list consists of Vancouver, Miami, New York, Lisbon, Copenhagen, Valetta, Barcelona and now Salvador...

I went to Lisbon in the summer. It was very nice - classic European capital - but there are one or two odd things. First, it's amazingly quiet. There seem to be very few cars. I suppose that's a good thing! Second, for a southern European country, the Portuguese are conservative, reserved. Very overpriced as well. I thought "blimey! Shall I buy a grilled tuna steak, or a villa in Marbella?"

Overall though, it's very nice. Also took some good day trips to interesting things outside the city - including the westernmost point of Eurasia.

I'd definitely go to the States with the weak USD.

lisbon isn't overpriced if you venture out from the city centre. My brother lived there last year and said it was pretty cheap.
Oh and it's lovely there!

I thought Lisbon was pretty cheap, even in the centre.

Have you decided where the Mezz and Mrs will be going yet?

Not even close to a final three yet, fella!

I'll have enough poppy to get two decent European breaks out of it or one long haul extravaganza, and I'm leaning towards the two European breaks at the moment.

I still fancy Copenhagen (I've wanted to go there since I was 7, almost 23 years ago) and Valletta keeps appearing in my thoughts as does Lisbon and Barcelona. Also, the lass has never been to Italy before and I really want her to see Florence while we have the chance.

Long haul, I think that New York, Vancouver and Miami are the only solid options. San Francisco was fantastic, but my trip there in November last year was the last major event I shared with the former Mrs. Mezz and I suspect that the emotions involved with that place would overcome me at least once.

Wouldn't exactly be pleasant for new girl, eh?...

I've still got a fair bit of time to decide though as I won't get my hands on 'da green' for at least another month.

Mind you, I'll probably end up buying a Tesco bag full of coke and imploding my face in the spare room over the course of two weeks or so knowing me...

What got you fascinated with Copenhagen at such a young age?!

If you've always fancied it, do it! It's a bit like Amsterdam only cleaner, less touristy and pricier, but if you're getting some cabbage, who cares about the latter, ja?

Not sure where else to post this.

Where can I find out in advance what times games are kicking-off?  The Lega Calcio site used to have this info, but doesn't appear to this year. The calcioitalia site doesn't even have the times for next weekends matches!

I'm in Rome on 10th Feb for the Italy v England 6 Nations game and could get to see Roma v Reggina if it's the Sunday night game.

The Lega Calcio haven't announced the times for that week yet, only the first 3 weeks after christmas. I'm sure they'll put one of their press release pdf files on their web by the middle of next week.

The last couple of months of last season's Serie B was a joke, the press releases were only ever put up 5-6 days before the game, a nightmare when trying to book anything. I think it was due to the riots in Catania, they weren't sure what stadiums could open.

Sorry fella, completely missed these posts...

Copenhagen because I was all set to go there when I was 9 (main attraction being Legoland) when my Mum interjected and forced us to go to Dallas so she could look at the f**king shitty house featured in the f**king shitty programme that she was addicted to.

Although my pre-pubescent lust for Legoland has since subdued, I've wanted to go to Copenhagen ever since.

As for where I actually will end up going, I'm undecided. I'm still waiting on the cabbage coming through, so I've decided not to plan anything until it's safely stored in my pantry lest I get proper f**ked off if there's a last minute hitch and I don't get as much as I'm expecting.

Some of the cash will definitely go towards a week long blow-out in Edinburgh. I haven't been home for almost 6 years, and the bird's never been to Scotland in her life, so it simply must be done.

Providing I don't go too crazy (which means staying away from my old club haunts and those mysterious chaps who sell expensive white powder in small packets), I'll still have enough cabbage left over to be able to choose my destination and have a blast while I'm there...

Haven't been back to Dubai for a few years, but it is a real HOLIDAY destination, if you know what i mean - No prospect of exploring, but plenty to splash your cash on (especially if the Mrs makes it to the gold soukh) - We lived out there between 1998 - 2002 and it was heaven on earth - If you hire a car you cn still get about th various emirates, but driving out there is like dodgems.

Recently bought a miniscule share in an apartment in Turkey (in bodrum) - finally got out there in August of last year and gave serioues thought to staying on permenantly. Yes, its full of tourists, but the pace of life is similar to that in Spain. Food and drink all reasonably priced, Loads of beaches, sleepy towns and excellent eateries. Very cheap to get to as well, and car hire + accomodation is also reasonable.

When are you planning on going Mezzer ?

The exciting world of international relocations hits it's peak between June and August, which means I can't take any time off from work, so I most likely won't be going anywhere until September at the earliest.

In February I'm due to fly out to Berlin with some friends for the Film Festival. Can anybody who's been to Berlin suggest any other activities that can be enjoyed whilst we're there?

Spotting the war damage?

Seriously, it depends what you want to do. You can locate an array of decent sports bars selling excellent food and beer and while away entire evenings - although you will be watching the Premiership with German commentary, or the English clubs in the Champions League in my experience.

If you want to get the Berlin Wall experience, then the Brandenburg Gate is atmospheric at night; the art gallery is nearby. There's also a quirky but interesing musuem of East Berlin located near the old East German seat of government, right next to the river (forget the exact name of the strasse it's on at the moment); Checkpoint Charlie is worth a look, but not as exciting as some guides suggest - 'ooh, look, it's a.... hut'.

If you're into athletics a visit to the Olympic Stadium is interesting, although it's a bit of a trek (take the U-bahn) and you can visit the Hertha Berlin club shop while there if so inclined, but there's not much to do other than wander round the stadium, visit the shop, and climb up the clock tower (not for those who don't like slightly wobbly wooden staircases, Mrs Dave informs me...).

You can get the U-Bahn to Oranienburg on the outskirts of the city. Here is Sachsenhausen concentration camp, one of the Nazis' most prolific genocidal sites.

Get the U-Bahn to Wannsee, also on the periphery - here, you will find the Wannsee Conference House, infamous for it is where the Final Solution to kill all the Jews in Europe was fathomed.
