Cheers dp. 2 Anadin Extras at midnight seemed to do the trick last night. Still niggling pain though which will probably surface once more at night. Might have to go to the dentist if no improvement by midweek.

Nasty business in Viareggio. Got a message last night from an English friend who lives out there who saw it all from his window. Facebook was quicker than the news agencies!

An email was sent out last week telling everyone that 2 staff members in my office had swine flu, and they were now on sick leave. Scare business.

All the best Bobo.

Same & Same, except the bit about scare business.

Considering normal stats for flu this one doesn't seem to be any worse.

Although listening to Bobo describe the symptoms, being a wonderful combination of a smoker and an asthmatic doesn't sound like something I want to get if I can help it

It now looks as though most of us will be undergoing mandatory inoculations starting next month once the vaccine is released...

Conspiracy theorists rejoice

I did a Summer School for my university this week at the university. It's in the London Borough of Camden which is one of the worst hit areas in the UK. It has caused a lot of school closures in the borough. To put it in perspective, the first doctor I spoke to refused to give me tamiflu and the second did so reluctantly, despite conceding I had the classic symptoms. The day after, another student leader came down with it but was told tamiflu stocks were so low in the area they were saving it for the worst cases. In some area of London swine flu is a genuine problem beyond common fly. Bringing together kids from state schools across London was always going to produce some likelihood of it spreading.

It did.

It came on suddenly. Friday morning I felt fine. Friday afternoon I had a headache and a smokers cough. If you get both symptoms I would take the precaution of isolating yourself for 12 hours. The onset of fever is fast. By Friday evening I felt weak, dizzy, had a soaring temperature and was sweating so much that my clothes were drenched. Im usually young, fit and healthy. I also felt extremely tired.

Good news is after 36 hours (48 hrs after first symptoms) and some tamiflu, the worst is over. I could still sleep at any moment but it's no longer a compulsion, more a choice. Deep breaths still cause me to cough and splutter but they no longer have the uncomfortable aggressiveness they once did. My temperature is down so the headaches are manageable. My pupils are no longer out of focus, horribly red and point in the same direction, I can have coherent thoughts and the aches are gone. My appetite has recovered and so has my strength (I can now reach for water and indeed stand up without a monumental effort). It still hurts to swallow.

It is not something you want. I understand some of the scepticism about it. It's a strain not generally found outside of the Americas so your body will take longer to fight it (less immunity). It is also worrying in its global aspect and the fact it has hit during the summertime.
Tbh even if it's just standard old flu with extra spreadability, the flu f**kin sucks and you don't want it so take precautions.

Cheers for the wellwishes. The good news for the forum is that Ill definitely survive it.
Oh and, short of any further mutations, Ill be immune to it when I head out to Mexico in August.

Mandatory vaccines???

You gotta be kidding me?  Like it would work anyways, they can't get the flu vaccine right for regular shots.

What a bunch of crap.  I wonder what else is in the "vaccine"
