Everything seems to be squished to the right of my screen with nothing on the left.

Better now but it is a pity the whole page does not fit neatly on my screen and I have to scroll along to see the whole page.

Clear the cookies on your home PC, that should fix it.

Adverts

This issue was raised in another thread before. Where any money raised from ads would be given back to the members by raffle or whatever.

I can now put adverts anywhere on the forum i want, however...

In my opinion the forum should be kept ad-free as we wouldn't have enough hits to demand any substantial amount of money. Therefore, i think we should only put up any advert banners which are of real benefit to the members of the forum, hence, John D Taylor's website or Channel Five, if they also linked to the forum perhaps aswel. Obviously this wouldn't create any monies but them linking to us would work both ways, so who's to say we shouldn't pay them instead of them paying us!

Obviously the ads would have to be kept to a minimum and basically just be one small-ish linking banner and not stupid flashy pop-ups (damn they annoyed me on the C4 forum!).

Personally, i'm in favour of linking to John's website, since it's not his fault C4 screwed us over, and i'm sure he's just as annoyed. I've noticed they don't post links to their articles on the C4 forum anymore so they obviously know what's happened.
I've emailed John and Steve (Wilson) letting them know that they can post links in the forum in they so wish, the same as any member. Also, if we were to put a banner for John's website, it would be linked to his calcioitalia.co.uk domain and not the channel4 domain, so their would be no legal issues in that regard.

Anyway, those are just my opinions.

It's your forum, moderated by the members themselves and that's the way it'll always be, so any decisions about banners linking to any website that is of real benefit to the members is up to the members of the forum, so please don't be shy with opinions on this matter, make the forum the way you want it!

John D. Taylor is the editor of the Calcio Italia magazine, the C4 website is his, but he owns the domain name
www .calcioitalia.co.uk which re-directs to the C4 website aswel.

Steve Wilson is the production editor of the mag.

They, along with the other writers in the mag (i assume) are the folks who update the C4 website, write the CI mag and who posted the links in the C4 forum under the username Football Italia Ed.

Two thoughts - I presume that the configuration panel link is numpty-proof and we're not going to be affected by random idiots changing it....

Second - John D Taylor. I would be a little wary about inviting him on board, since his firm runs the C4 website, and utlimately - assuming you apply the notion that the buck stops with the man at the top - he is the man responsible for the old foro turning into the farce it ultimately became, be it through not controlling his moderators, or because he was unable to prevent some puritanical numpty at C4 from waving the ban stick with excess zeal. Harsh, but that's resposibility for you. We need to exercise care in our dealings with him, IMHO.

Now, if he wants the C4 forum moderated with a degree of common sense, I suspect that several mods and admins here would happily maintain foro law and order in an appropriate style and for a small consideration....

If any money does come in, though, I want mine to go to direct Combat Stress, please to help them pick up the pieces of Mr Blair's foreign policy <goes off to ban himself for being overly political>

It's for illustration only, if someone changes and submits it, it will make no difference, it submits to no-where. Only the Amins can change the configuration.

It wasn't his firm. Point taken though about his responsibility, but remember he's stuck between a rock and a hard place, exactly the reason why he'll only be given normal member status. He's the owner of the mag, but he's got responsibility to give employment to his writers because he's given them a certain commitment. If C4 screws up through whatever means, that's really out of his hands.
It's easy to say he can do this or should've done that, but he has to please C4 aswel as us, so it's a no-win situation, in a sense there's two sets of people that he's accountable to. It's easy to sit back with only ever having one boss to answer to, that's not the case in every job, so we aren't all as lucky, Dave, so take it easy!

It is none my business, and such a relief to be able to talk b......s and not having to change ID every day, however Myles if you make any money, assuming you don't want any, why not give to charity.

If, as usual, I understood nothing I apologise.

I doubt we'll be making any money though.

Actually, this wouldn't really work since it's C4 who contract out the moderatoring and not JDT who has the say, i assume.

No need to apologise, no offence taken.

I may have misunderstood. My impression was that C4 had contracted out the running of the C4FI site lock, stock and moderation to JDT Productions, and that it was the latter which dealt with the day-to-day running of the board.

However, I'd not properly considered the possibility that JDT may have been stitched into a scenario where other C4 moderators could dip into the C4FI board and start waving the banning stick around in a random and unhelpful fashion - which could explain a lot.

C4 run the forum, Steve Wilson emailed saying they have nothing to do with the moderating of the C4 forum.
