Ronaldo f**king off to that shower of shite in Madrid.
Absolutely fantastic player (when he felt like it), but an arrogant, self-centred ponce off the pitch.
£80M is good business, but I don't expect a lot of it to go in to replacing Ronaldo - bigger fish to fry and all that - but Fergie doesn't need to sign a superstar now in order for us to have a superstar playing for us this time next year.
Wouldn't mind Benzema though...
Ungracious.

Name me a player who isn't an "arrogant, self-centred ponce off the pitch"? And who really cares anyway? If I was a Man Utd fan I'd be gutted to lose such a good player, would wish him well, but would be chuffed with £80m with which to buy 4 world class players. Just stay away from Ashley Young though!

Bollocks to the pair of you.
We gave him the best possible stage to devlop and perform, and all he's done for the last year is court Real Madrid publically in an absolutely sickening show of disrespect to the club, the supporters and the manager.
He started to believe his own hype, and he clearly thinks he's bigger than the club, and that means he has to go.
You won't catch me saying that he hasn't been a joy to watch at times - he's achieved a lot in the game already and has contributed to the clubs recent successes in no small way - but as a man he leaves a lot to be desired. _________________ ACF FIORENTINA:FORZA LA VIOLA

I agree with Mezz on this one. There's a way to leave a club, and there's a way not to leave a club. Compare Kaka's dignified departure with Ronaldo's behaviour over the past year. Yes he's done a lot for Man Utd, but he's still acted like a w**ker throughout the whole affair. _________________ Forza Juve!!!

I'll miss the player but not the man. Not a GTTMMH but not a BTTMMU either, it's been an inevitable situation.
As ungracious as it may be, I will enjoy it if he has less success at Madrid. In fact I'm beginning to see the funny side of Portugal's probable failure to qualify for WC 2010.
I wouldn't grumble about Benzema coming in either, or Ribery.

The supporters don't owe players gratitude for choosing 'their' club if the player doesn't love the club and plays cat and mouse with them, the players get paid to do a job, that's the gratitude.
If the player loves the club it's different and the supporters will appreciate it.

Haha...Mezz, last year he put in a transfer request (which is not exactly a crime), United refused to allow him to leave.
But an agreement was struck that meant Real could buy him this summer for £80m (Guillem Balague spoke of this way back in January). This summer comes, the economic troubles mean Madrid try to lessen the fee of the prior arrangement, United refuse. Real pay up, Ronaldo leaves.
PR dictates that United let out the impression that Ronaldo was banging on about leaving (which is true, but not the full story), and of course people mustn't dare think that this MASSIVE club have just been stripped of their best player through their own volition. It's important for the fans to continue believing in the brand, and therefore, didn't genius Fergie do well in getting rid of him. The modern game is all about smoke and mirrors.
You say you 'gave him the best possible stage to perform'...which is very generous, but of course he did stick by his end of the bargain and performed very very well for you. You've given plenty of other players the same platform to perform and they simply haven't. Most games I've seen United since Keane left, Ronaldo seemed to be the one player willing to carry the team, and always had the courage to keep asking for the ball. As we say at The Lane 'To Dare is to Do' I think his departure will lift the veil over the deficiencies of some of his ex-team mates. 2 of whom happen to be forwards and yet making crunching tackles in the left-back position appears too often their greatest contribution in games.
If being bought by a club for £12-odd million at a very young age, moving to a different country, different culture, entertaining the fans week in week out, scoring incredible goals, helping the club to every single trophy in the game and leaving them with a £68ish million pound profit after six years constitutes a 'sickening show of disrespect', then I say its the fans being arrogant not the player.

I've said my piece, Zeds.
I didn't post my thoughts on the Ronaldo transfer in order to get in to a debate with a La Liga loving half-wit, so I'll leave it as it is.
Needless to say though, I found the majority of the above absolutely comical. _________________ ACF FIORENTINA:FORZA LA VIOLA

Had Ronaldo 'done a Maradona' and in effect won titles and trophies almost single-handedly for Man Utd in the way that everyone's favourite drug-addled, hand-balling, cheating, magnificent footballing genuis did for Argentina, then it might be a tad ungracious to welcome his departure.
But he didn't. And he arguably ensured that Rooney and Tevez weren't able to play to their full ability.
He was superb for United in the 2007-08 season, no doubt and played a massive part in their success - but he threw his toys out of the cot when he found that United wouldn't let him 'live his dream' with Real.
If gratitude is due, it should be from Ronaldo for ensuring that he won a league title and got to the CL final this year, since if he'd got his way last summer and left, he'd have ended up with the square root of rock all this time around (Real even with Ronaldo, I suggest, would not have been good enough to beat Barca this season)

Why are football contracts different from normal work contracts?
If I wanted to quit my job I could do and then I could start work somewhere else. In fact people changing jobs happens quite frequently. Why is this not possible in football? It's something I've never stopped to consider before. Surely there are laws against this restriction on labour..? Aren't transfer windows also unfair?
Sometimes we forget - because it's a sport - that there are also employees in this game.
We gave him the best possible stage to develop and perform, and all he's done for the last year is court Real Madrid publically in an absolutely sickening show of disrespect to the club, the supporters and the manager.
ah come on Mezz,he has brought United back to the glory years after a title barren spell,I was actually suprised he lasted 6 years at Man U after exhilarating displays at Euro 2004 and World Cup 2006,he's achieved all he possibly can at Man U,how long more would you have expected him to remain at Old Trafford?it's time for a new challenge for Cristiano and I hope he prospers in Madrid.
But most definetely Ronaldo is a gimp, a self-indulgent idiot it must be said,I would put his 'disrespectful' behaviour down to his sheer lack of brains.I hope we see Real visit Old Trafford during the CL next season,we'll see what response he gets then my friend!
