Btw, the game you reference was lost due to a mistake by Ginola not Cantona. Cantona lost his place in the side because he insulted the coach and Ginola after the game with the kind of words even Cassano wouldnt dream of using. _________________ http://bringtheparty.blogspot.com/

I can't believe no one mentioned James Richardson's favourite player of the mid-nineties, Luis Oliveira...

For me, Thomas Häßler was one of the most under-rated players of the 90s. Perhaps not good enough to make the Top 50, though certainly worth a mention.

Doesn't Totti have a WC winners medal?

Not a good argument I'm afraid Duncan. As I think I mentioned earlier in this topic, Baggio hardly has any trophies, while Phil neville has loads. Trophies aren't necessarily a guide of ability. _________________ Forza Juve!!!

Yeah, but Totti does have quality, was in FIFA WC all star team, and was playing prob at 70%.
Unless you think Neville and LeBouf are better than Totti, than you need a new brain

I do think Cantona is. It was simply an example to show how stupid your analogy is.
Anyway I like you cos you support a good team. _________________ http://bringtheparty.blogspot.com/

Well if you wanna be facetious about it Totti is injured atm, is he not? So I'd have a vaguely fit Cantona over a hobbling Totti. Especially at beach football. _________________ http://bringtheparty.blogspot.com/

In no particular order, just some of the players of my generation I'll probably be telling my kids about one day.
Marco Van Basten
Hristo Stoichkov
Romario
Ruud Gullit
Frank Rijkaard
Franco Baresi
Paolo Maldini
Gheorgie Hagi
Iordan Letchkov
Zinedine Zidane
Ronaldo (Luiz Nazario De Lima.........NOT Cristiano)
Davor Suker
Jean Pierre Papin
Alan Shearer
Paul Gascoigne
Giuseppe Signori
Enrico Chiesa
Roberto Mancini
Alessandro Del Piero
George Weah
Dejan Savicevic
Dunga
Diego Maradona
Javier Zanetti
Gianfranco Zola
Fabio Cannavaro
Andriy Shevchenko
Fernando Hierro
Gabriel Batistuta
Dennis Bergkamp
Jurgen Klinsmann
Roberto Baggio
Mathias Sammer
Lothar Matthaus
Jari Litmanen
Predrag Mijatovic
Roger Milla
Eric Cantona

Not quite 50 and probably some glaring omissions.

Looks like you were a big fan of Italia 90, Micky! One glaring ommission - Gheorge Hagi. I know he was pants at club level, but was a legend for Romania along with Marius Lacatus.
I also liked Carlos Valderrama butr can't remember if he was actually any good or if it was just his hair that stood out.

Indeed, 90 and 94 WC's are only surpassed by 2006 and that is only because of the outcome rather than the quality of football.
Romania and Bulgaria of 94 are two of my all time favourite sides, Hagi, Lacatus and Munteanu and Letchkov, Balakov, Stoichkov and Kostadinov for Bulgaria.
I contemplated putting Tomas Brolin in my list, another player I remember fondly because of USA 94, but he's far more famous for being a big fat hump than for his football.

USA 94 is my favourite World Cup. Probably because it's the first one I watched, but I'll always have fond memories of the likes of Baggio, Romario, Hagi, Stoichkov and Oleg Salenko. _________________ Forza Juve!!!
