Myles,

Just get annoyed at how few people are on here sometimes. I'm currently working for a company that has gone into Administration and for the past few weeks have been sat reading books and viewing the internet while the company is wound down. It's a shame we've lost a few regulars over the years as it can be dead on here at times.

Having said this, I'd probably be moaning again if we had a bunch of morons join and post crap threads asking monotonous questions about tickets and who everyone supports etc.

I can imagine that's annoying alright, my wages keep getting cut between new levies and higher income taxes, but i'm lucky i have a job relatively speaking.

You're entitled to your opinion of being pissed off with Calcio Italia, one person can not say another person's opinion is wrong as it is an 'opinion', so i was just stating that factually Calcio Italia don't owe us anything but that a plug in their mag would be appreciated all the same, out of courtesy perhaps, but we can't do anything about that i suppose.

Question:

If Myles and Mezz are fighting, is it possible that their attentions are distracted enough to allow me to launch a military coup?

Is there such a thing as luck ? are some people really lucky and others just doomed to failure.

Can i honestly have had a small fortune riding on a draw at Marseille and some miserable c**t of a c**t of a c**t of a c**t score in the last minute denying me the funds to pay off the majority of my debt stemming back from my student days ?

Can life honestly be that cruel ?

If there is a God up there, i hope he knows that he's a c**t.

I had a Marseille win on an accumulator tonight fella, but it sounds like you had a lot more staked on the result than I did.

Better luck next time, Delboy.

Bit of a sore one here:

Still, I found it funny that it was reported in the Sin Chew Daily.

Anyone been to Malaysia? Any good?
Air Asia X fly to KL from Stansted for about £300 return, which looks a bit tasty...

Horribly late timing but my and I are thinking how cool it would be to be in Barcelona to watch the CL final there.
Does anybody know cheap flight sites, other than the usual easyjet etc.

I'm sure Ferret uses, or used, SkyScanner for his flights:

Yep, skyscanner's the bible - also consider flying into Reus or Girona airports, and then travel down to Barca - good luck!

Why do Gazzetta and Corriere both have that Mourinho is 99.9% sure of staying yet 0.01% not sure, what's 99.91% got to do with anything?

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
F*cking online booking.

I found a great flight to Barca for £88 return...put in my payment details and everything. Right at the end a message showed up that it was pending confirmation. Got an email this morning telling me that my booking has been cancelled.

The next cheapest flight is around £150, not sure I want to go now.

not sure if you are using software etc. for SEO? I've been using these guys for a while:

http://www.seomoz.org/

its free to sign up and the tools are quite handy.

Thanks delpiero, i'll check them out. Up to now i've been using Google Analytics and Google Webmaster tools since google search engine is the rank that we need to top, it's like pissing against the wind sometimes, what with trying to out-do the established websites.

How are you getting on with all the Google malarkey, Myles ?

I've been doing lots of tweaking and tinkering recently, most of it via the google webmaster tools in the hopes of improving my google pagerank (was a 2, now up to 3).

I noticed the forum doesn't have a PR as yet, have you registered it at DMOZ and Yahoo directories ?

I recently did a mass submission of my site to lots of footie directories on the web and it seems to be doing the trick:

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl...Search&meta=&aq=f&oq=

This might come in handy - Its the best stat tool i've come across and its also free:

http://www.statcounter.com/

If you install the basic HTML code on this index page of this site, you'll be able to track search phrases, referrers etc.

I've found it easier to use than Google webmaster tools and a little more accurate.

Thanks delpiero.

I've now submitted the forum to all the directories listed on your website.

DMOZ doesn't send any traffic to this forum even though it is in their directory.

I've submitted to Yahoo, but they send hardly any traffic to the forum.

I just concentrate on SEO for google because they have the monopoly.

Webmaster tools are good for submitting or resubmitting and telling me the rules but that's about all it's good for in my experience, and google analysis is good for letting me know which phrases people are searching, so by using that i can create webpages to hit on the button of those phrases. But at the end of the day...i could spend hours looking at google analysis and not actually doing anything else, so lately i've been using this particular tool in adwords to see how many people are searching for phrases within the UK, US, Canada, Ireland, Australia, Italy and Globally and make webpages specifically geared towards those phrases. Of course the webpages are against the webmaster rules, but they stay within the boundary of keeping off the radar, and if i was to stick to the rules there would always be 100 established websites ranked ahead of the forum for any phrase that people search.

Statcounter doesn't seem to provide anything that google analysis doesn't already provide, but as you say it's more accurate and i certainly won't dispute that, but I'm blue in the face looking at stats to be honest

So the current strategy i'm using is:
  1. Use that adwords tool to get the popular searched phrases
  2. Create a few similar webpages accordingly
  3. Use that search phrase in google to see where the webpages rank (after it's been indexed) and learn from that

While i've to create more webpages and wait another month or two to see results the very early indications are promising.

We're better off ranking in the top 3 for 'fiorentina forum' even if only a thousand people search it, rather than futilely trying to rank on the first page of the index for 'fiorentina' even if ten thousand people search 'fiorentina', because the thousand people that searched 'fiorentina forum' are looking for just that, a forum.
Ultras phrases are good too as people who search those phrases know more about calcio and are more inclined to join the forum than people who are just searching club names because their english team is playing them next week or whatever.

The one thing i would advise if someone asked me for advice is to take all those SEO advice websites with a pinch of salt, not sure how they can claim to be SEO experts since they don't know the google algorithim! Those sites where the SEO 'experts' give rating to the importance of each variable within the algorithim are a joke, as a variable that is rated important now might not be as important in 6 months and vice-versa so the collective ratings spread over time aren't relevent to today, and tomorrow it could be different again. Also, because google reacts different to different types of website structures, which can make their ratings even less relevent to this forum and send me off on a wild goose chase, wasting time concentrating on variables that are actually doing harm to this forums ranking.

As you know yourself, go with your own experience you've gained over the years as what works for someone else may do the opposite for your website. That's my motto anyway
