If Italia do not qualify for Euro 2008, what is next for the Azzurri.

I could see players like Cannavaro and the Matrix retiring from La Nazionale.

Would Capello step in for the 2 year WC qualifying???

Doubt it, Capello's always said he'd never be the azzurri coach, but then again Capello is easily swayed when you dangle a big pay cheque in front of his face.

I see Foggia (Cagliari) has been included in the squad, is he really that good? Okay he's scored 3 goals from midfield but they're all rigori. If that's the only reason, it must be easy to get onto the squad these days!

Why he's in there over Rosina, who's more versatile and has been playing at a consistently high level for more than 2 years I don't know...

And Lucarelli and Rocchi??? They are not international top quality.

Better to call up Pazzini and maybe Miccoli. If Italy don't get to the Euro's , don't make the same mistake in taking the same old team to the WC like Italy did in 86

Cannavaro played the whole game for Madrid the other day, why wouldn't he be ready for France. If Toni doesn;t start, which is looking likely, please oh please no Lucarelli. He is not Azzurri material.

Better to go with Pippo

Foggia is a good player from what I've seen, although I've only seen him play a couple of times. He was a constant threat against Juventus, and on that form is worth his place in the squad.

Does anyone know if the Italy - France game is going to be shown live on tv? According to bet365 there is a tv sign next to the game but I've had a look through the schedules and can't see it on.

Thanks for that

I ended up watching it through sopcast and it was probably the best stream I have watched. I wish all games were streamed like it!

It really is some battle for qualification in the group. Delighted with the Scottish result yesterday, still in it and although Ukraine have slipped up they're not out of it either. Still hope Italy and Scotland go through.

Italy could have taken this game. But, it seemed it kind of ran out of steam in the 2nd half.

A few thoughts----

ADP should not start the next game-- he is not up to this level anymore.

The D was very good.

Italia missed Toni and Totti

Inzaghi by himself upfront does not work

Buffon is the best

AND finally, so what the fans jeered the French anthem.. If not for the stupid and borderline racist comments from the France camp, it wouldn;t have happened.

So shut up already.

I'm sorry, but it's never needed. The French showed a lack of professionalism, but at a game when I hear booing over the opposition's national anthem I feel really embarrassed.

I didn't .

So, no Toni against Ukraine either. Iaquinta again??

Why not somebody else. Or change the tactics to the players strengths.

Yes, Duncan I feel the same about Del Piero. I think Donadoni got ir wrong. It isn't a game for the likes of DP. Everyone knows its gonna be physical, so I would have played Di Natale, or even Iaquinta. DP, unfortunately, lacks the pace and physical strengh for that sort of match.

I think we would have seen a better Alex had the formation been better, I can't see how u some are blaming him for Saturday's match. i mean, he played off role, as a wing (alessandro del piero.... a wing donadoni, you're an idiot!).
he did what he could. none of his teammates helped him, nobody put pressure on french players, de rossi was 10 meters behind his correct position (even donadoni himself admitted it).... but de rossi never plays in that position, so it was a donadoni directive. del piero, playing as a wing, camoranesi couldn't cut inside, pirlo, well he almost didn't touch the ball.

I agree ADP was not in a great position, but just look slow and out of his depth in the game. I think the age of some of the players is starting to be a concern. Please, no Vieri-- he is done.

I would go with a 4411 for the game with Ukraine.

Buffon, oddo, Canna, Barzagli, Zambro, Camo, Pirlo, De Rossi, Aquilani, Di Natale, Inzaghi

If Italy lose, go with the young players the rest of the way--- Chiellini, Pazzini, Aquilani, Montolivo, etc.....

If Il Mister persists with the 433, go with Quagliarella, Inzaghi, and Di Natale up front with Pirlo, De Rossi and Ambrosini in mid

Italy really need someone like Bianchi or Gilardino to really find form when Toni is unavailable.

Exactly the forward line I expected against France. You need guys like Quagli and Di Natale due to their pace and strenght.

juveboy: You said Pirlo almost didn't touch the ball? You sure you watched the game? Pirlo is the midfield that night. He is the only creativity Italy had. And what little chances Italy got (Del P, Inzaghi) were created by his incisive through balls. Go watch the game again.
