Italian films I'd recommend include the gentle but delightful 'Mid August Lunch', from the same director 'Salt of Life', the very sad but excellent 'The Son's Room', The second world war drama 'Malena' starring Monica Bellucci and lastly political satire (recently on BBC4) 'Il Divo.'
There's loads more I'll think of depending on your taste but 'Romanzo Criminale' and 'Gommorah' are both ace and great starters. _________________ 'Il tifo e il nostro mestiere.'

Just watched Gomorrah, very well made, I enjoyed it.
Next up is The girl with the dragon tattoo, probably followed by Romanzo Criminale.
Thanks for the tips Lupo, I'll check them out.

Can anyone recommend any Japanese horror films along the lines of Ringu? Basically I'm after stuff that can be regarded as scary but more so in the psychological sense than violent. Arigato

Diatribe, off the top of my head try 'Dark Water' by the same director which came out after the 'Ringu' Trilogy (and if you've not seen 'Ringu 2' ,do, it's very good). Also try Miike's classic 'Audition', 'MPD Pyscho', Masters of Horror episode and 'Ringu' inspired 'One Missed Call.' Korean classics 'A Tale of Two Sisters' and 'R-Point' are also well worth a creepy watch as is short story compilation 'Three Extremes.'
Tartan Extreme DVD do loads of Aisan films but the quality varies with many being generic copies. Enjoy........... _________________ 'Il tifo e il nostro mestiere.'

I've been a little underwhelmed so far. It's had its moments but last week's episode was way too slapstick for me, hopefully tonight's will be back to normal. _________________ http://theredpandacult.blogspot.co.uk/

Bloody hell, don't we all have good taste? Well done everybody.
I haven't been on in ages so I'll give you a little list of stuff I've liked over the past few months (you lucky, lucky people).
Louise-Michel, Beaufort, Trollhunter, The Guard, Revolutionary Road, Vicky Christina Barcelona, Of Gods And Men, The Man From Nowhere, Tucker & Dale vs Evil, Biutiful, Breathless, Mother, Milou En Mai, Departures, The Wave, True Grit, The Secret In Their Eyes, Mary & Max, Grave Of The Fireflies, Sin Nombre, Lebanon, Waltz With Bashir, Rosemary's Baby, A Single Man, Dogtooth, Sophie Scholl: The Last Days and also a lot of the ones you guys have all mentioned.
Currently watching Boardwalk Empire. There's even more shagging in it than True Blood. Never thought that would be possible.

Great watching Verno! for 'The Man From Nowhere'! There's quite a few in that list I must see.
My most recent cinema experiences are 'The Descendants' which was a very enjoyable comedy starring George Clooney and then gritty cop drama 'Rampart' with an amazing performance by Woody Harrelson. Both films are ace. _________________ 'Il tifo e il nostro mestiere.'

I've seen The Man from Nowhere being described as a Korean 'Taken' and I suppose there are similarities of plot but as it's Korean it's far more bonkers and violent. _________________ Forza Milan

Verno, have you seen the french film from last year 'Point Blank'? Very similar to the two you mention above and well worth a viewing as it's a reallly tense and action filled watch.
Anyone been watching HBO's 'Luck'? A friend reckons it been cancelled due to horses dying during filming! Apparently three died making the first episode alone. _________________ 'Il tifo e il nostro mestiere.'

Indeed I have. Good old thriller that doesn't stick around too long. Perfect with a liberal application of beer. _________________ Forza Milan

Great tv. I have a huge crush (for a middle-aged man) on his ex-wife/ current squeeze! She also has a part in the first episode of the current 'Californication' series as well as the lead charcter's ex....... _________________ 'Il tifo e il nostro mestiere.'
