Dani Jarque, aged 26.

Captain of Espanyol, apparently suffered a heart attack whilst on a pre-season training camp.

Sad news. Is it me or is this becoming more and more prevalent? He was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool last summer, but very much a one club man, was only just handed the captaincy.

I don't have stats to hand but I suspect, like violent crime, it seems more common now just because it is reported more.  I don't think I'd have even heard that Espanyol's captain had died if it had happened 10 years ago.  Young men have always died of heart attacks.  A propos nowt in particular, I remember feeling particularly sad that Robbie James, the ex-Wales Swansea midfielder died whilst playing for Llanelli about 10 years ago.  He played a major role in taking Swansea from the old 4th Division to top of the 1st in the early 1980s.  Incredible achievement and superb player.

Not on mine, sadly.  The only member of the Kennedy clan I selected was Ludo.

Still, 2 of my boys have been released from prison on the undertanding that they go home and die quickly, so it will be, quite literally, a travesty of justice if Biggs and Megrahi are around to see in the New Year.

Made 3 posts just linking to his website, rather than participating in conversation, spamming.

Legend of Italian television and Juventus fan Mike Bongiorno, aged 85. Links when I can find them. He managed to bring a touch of class to some of the shittiest Italian television.

Scottish actor Iain Cuthbertson, aged 79. Best known for roles in Children of the Stones, Supergran, Budgie, Sutherland's Law. He was very good but I doubt most on here will remember him.
