Robert MacNamara
Former US Secretary of Defense, aged 93. I imagine that there won't be much in the way of mourning for him in northern Vietnam, though...

It occurred to me that someone had McNamara on their totodeath list, and turns out it was me. Although you've have thought after teaching several modules on the Vietnam War I might have spelt his name properly

No more Jolly Rogering, me hearties
John Ryan, creator of Captain Pugwash has died, aged 88.
And before anyone gets themselves sued by his estate, Roger the Cabin Boy, Seaman Staines and Master Bates were parodies made up at some point in the 70s and he won substantial damages from a couple of newspapers who claimed they were his creation...

Patch was the last trench-fighting infantryman. Media largely ignore the presence of Choules.

Adding to that - Sir Bobby Robson - BBC linky
Happened to catch a snippet of the charity game in support of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation on the TV , and when the cameras cut to him, it was sadly clear from his appearance that he wasn't long for this world.
