The main problem is there is not enough interest to show it on a main terrestial channel. That's why Channel Four dropped it and presumably that is why Five are doing likewise.

Anyone try Serie A TV last season? It was internet only coverage and cost about €50 a season last year. It might be worth checking out if no one picks up the rites for the UK.
I've a horrible feeling that Serie A won't be picked up for UK coverage this season. Here's hoping Fat Frank signs on the Inter dotted line to generate some interest.

I tried them myself last year (Serie A TV). They only show coverage to America & Japan.... You can talk to customer support directly in the contact us section. I asked them last year if they've any plans to expand their coverage to european countries and i was told that there was no plans of yet.... If a lot of people asked though before the season started ya never know!

I wasn't aware the Serie A TV was for outside of Europe. There goes my final legal option as I don't see any UK broadcaster picking up the new season's coverage.

Hopefully bet365 still show it next year if nobody takes on the rights, can't complain with 5 live games a weekend even if they're not full screen, otherwise i'll be back to using sopcast...!

Well, I emailed Setanta about a week ago to ask if they had any plans to show Serie A. (Setanta and Eurosport are about the only channels I can imagine picking up the rights at this late stage). I was told that the rights were not currently available, but if they became available, Setanta would be interested in bidding for them.
Make of that what you will. I suspect the customer services bod writing the email simply didn't know what he was talking about.

Anyone else heard the rumour that Setanta will be showing Serie A football this season?

Yeah Setanta confirmed it tonight i think, just caught the end of the Football Matters earlier and they said at the end of it that they had secured the rights.... don't know what games they are showing and if it's from this weekend but when i went to this weekend on my sky Guide they have a slot for saturday and sunday at 7 and it just says live european football so fingers crossed....

Brilliant news - this was the best possible outcome. Now I'm glad I waited before choosing between Sky and Setanta.

Great news, though now I have to decide whether to subscribe at home or at uni....
Will the games be on Setanta 1? That's the only one you get on Freeview.
Freeview box 'has to have a card slot' though, which might mean buying another one.

The early signs are that games will be on Setanta Sports 2. There are two slots on that channel this Saturday and Sunday evening, and I'm guessing they're reserved for Samp-Inter and Fiorentina-Gobbi.

I believe Betfair/Bet 365 etc are showing live games as well if anyone fancies a wider choice. _________________ Forza Juve!!!

Word up, Liam.
Both Saturday games plus two Sunday afternoon games and the Sunday evening game on Bet365.
Setanta can plant their lips squarely on my furry hoop if they reckon I'm going to pay £12.99 per month for games I can see for free. _________________ ACF FIORENTINA : FORZA LA VIOLA

£6.50 a month if you sign up before midnight tonight, as I just have.
I wonder who will be the saviour this time next year.......

I think Serie A has found its best home since the C4 heyday. Eurosport was too low-profile, Bravo weren't committed to calcio, and Five's production quality was awful. But Setanta is a specialist sports network with plenty of channels to show the big games at whatever time they are played. It also has Mr Calcio, James Richardson, on its books - though I'm not sure how involved he'll be, given his numerous existing commitments.
We should get lots of calcio professionally presented and Setanta should get better viewing figures than they do for Ligue 1 or the Bundesliga. I can see this being a long-term deal.
Forza Setanta, I say.

Wasn't Setanta's coverage of Serie A pretty crap when they had it a couple of years back? I don't recall anyone on here speaking particularly highly of them back then...

I saw that deal too, but the £6.50 per month thing is only for the first three months before the price jumps to £12.99 per month, plus there's Setanta's £14.99 "connection fee" too.
Considering that I rarely watch games in full that don't involve Man United or Fiorentina, that I'm more than happy going down the pub to watch games that aren't on Sky and that all normal Serie A TV games (plus one or two more) are available for free online, I don't really think it's worth the expenditure for me. _________________ ACF FIORENTINA : FORZA LA VIOLA

Setanta *were* crap a couple of years ago, and at the time I watched Bravo's coverage instead because it was fronted by JR and there was no subscription. But the whole Setanta set-up has been upgraded since then - they've hired a load of proper presenters and pundits and they're seriously trying to rival Sky.
I'm confident we'll see some good coverage of Serie A on Setanta this year.
