Serie A Betting Game Champion 2009 |

It's a pity that Kaka won't be playing though. A lot of people would have tuned in to see him, particularly after all the Man City bollocks last month.
I'm praying that the Milan teams provide us with a high scoring, pulsating match on Sunday night so that the BBC (or any other channel) is encouraged to take up Serie A coverage on a full time basis, but I'm not holding my breath.
As I see it, the main problem with the BBC picking up coverage of Serie A is the amount of money they would have to spend on securing the rights which I believe is astronomical.
If the BBC did this, they would then have to justify spending millions on something only to stick it straight on BBC3 (or one of their other obscure platforms) to the licence fee payer, the majority of whom will have absolutely no interest in Serie A and won't want their regular * weekend BBC1 / BBC2 programming disturbed.
* = absolutely pathetic. _________________ ACF FIORENTINA : FORZA LA VIOLA

Yes, Mezz as you say it would have been nice for the english prem followers to see what "money couldn't buy" on sunday night.
As you say the reality of having to justify programme spending to the licence fee payers will probably scupper the chances of a permanent deal.
The whole UK TV rights debacle has been very interesting, as I understand it the league sold the rights to an independent company who then tried to sell on to interested parties. This season they haven't been able to sell the rights (mainly because of the lack of exclusive rights due to internet betting site coverage?), so what does that mean for next season? Was that deal for more than one season?
The ideal situation would be that the rights holders have to lower their asking price next season and hence make them a more affordable package which could bring Setanta, Eurosport etc back into the equation. Surely the rights company will be keen to get something for their outlay??

No idea, but you can try the various betting sites that have 5 Serie A matches live a week such as Bet 365 and Betfair. Myself I'm perfectly happy with using those because of the choice of matches, even if an internet stream isn't the TV in terms of picture quality.
I can though see a broadcaster being interested in acquiring the rights permanently should David Beckham remain in Italy into next season. _________________ Forza Juve!!!

As Liam said there are a variety of betting sites that stream most of the major games every weekend, and although all fairly similar in quality I would definitely recommend the William Hill website - http://sports.williamhill.com/bet/EN as you can display the footage almost full screen (which I'm not sure you can with bet365 etc). It also seems to suffer from less "buffering", but that will also depend on the reliability and speed of your broadband connection.
Of course there's no studio build up and analysis with the great AC Jimbo, but you do get to listen to the ambient crowd noise and the players chatting in the tunnel at half time, which can be interesting!

Beckham will be key to any further coverage of serie A, most probably on BBC3 or ITV4.
The tv rights issue is so convoluted that i am unable to watch the FA Cup this season on tv in Scotland. Instead we get repeats of Morse or such film classics as "Junior". Ridiculous! At least ITV stream it live online.

I believe the game's on all the betting sites. I personally use Betfair because it runs best on my computer, but Bet 365 and William Hill have better quality pictures. _________________ Forza Juve!!!

Ciao,
I'm new to the forum but as a lifelong fan of Italian football I hope to fit right in.
I am praying that Milan sign Beckham permantely as live Serie A action will most definetely be brought back to our t.v. screens. Whether it be by his footballing skills or celebrity status , Goldenballs brings the worlds media with him.I can see Setanta ending the drought for the deprived supporters of calcio, especially as the pragmatic James Richardson is currently presenting for them.Only time will tell though.

Welcome Mike.
I don't think there is much chance of Serie A being shown in Ireland, there isn't a large enough following, coupled with the fact that the games are free online now aswel.

Hi Myles,
We have the same television options as the UK viewer.I'm already a subscriber to Setanta and Sky so I see no problem there.Although I watch the games on William Hill now i'd rather have the comfort of watching Serie A on my tv screen.
If a UK based broadcaster were to obtain Serie A rights for next season, who do you think the most likely candidate would be?

As Setanta have lost one of their Premiership packages, and Sky seem to have a love-in with Spanish football, I'd have thought they'd be the favourites, especially if Goldenballs ends up in Milan.

Will be interesting to see if the extra cash Setanta will have in a year's time frees it up to gain the rights.
Unfortunately the main stumbling block for those of us who can only get Setanta Sports on Freeview (which is probably a fair percent) is that their contract to show USPGA golf (that they outbid Sky for) means they are certain to show that on Sat and Sun nights on the one Freeview channel they broadcast on. If they could gain another channel on Freeview it would help of course...

Possibly Setanta.
I live in Ireland aswel so i know we get the same options as the UK but i can't see any station available in Ireland picking up the rights so that's why i said Ireland to distinguish, as there as forum members from around the world.
Doesn't bother me to be honest, i can watch them all in this pub.
