I know, I was joking.

It was a comic strip featured in the italian magazines about the Paninaro fashion cult in the eighties . Imagine British football casuals with more style!

yea, a surprisingly good song... Alborosie is apparently from Sicily but moved to Kingston to be closer to the heart of reggae... seems to have paid off somewhat..

just got my hands on radiohead's "my iron lung EP" ... pretty good considering its just about my favourite era from them.. ask me if its their best, il say OK computer.. but for pure fun doesnt get better than that Bends era..

Just wanted to say cheers for posting that BM. I've always loved reggae but never really listened to anything beyond Marley or Peter Tosh.

Since discovering this i've gone from Alborosie to Sizzla to Buju Banton to Capleton to Jr Gong and beyond !

I went to both nights in Milan and had the chance of tickets for Friday night in Dublin, but bastard flights were too expensive.  Off to both nights at Wembley as well.  As good as they were (and the stage is amazing) the set list leaves a bit to be desired, although good to see they've been playing Bad in Dublin, and New Years Day got an airing last night.

A lot of people didn't seem to know the new songs at all!
Perhaps it's because people are feeling the pinch of the recession, but if people don't like the set list because they don't know the songs it's not the band's fault really.
I'm not saying you don't know the new songs, but how is it a bad set list?

Opening with four new songs is not like U2 and, whilst I appreciate they've got to plug the new album, it was a bit top heavy.  And Moment of Surrender, whilst a fantastic song, is not the one to finish on. In Milan they didn't play Bad at all.

I just found the set list a bit odd compared to those on previous tours (I first saw them in 1984 so I've seen a few!!) - still a bloody good show and the best I've seen for years.

And yes, I do know the new songs

Yeah fair points, though i didn't mind them finishing on Moment of Surrender myself i can see your point.

What I meant was the order of the songs, rather than the set list itself.  They played the best songs off the new album, although I'm not keen on the version of Crazy Tonight - a bit too Discotheque for me!!

Are you coming over for any of the UK shows?

No, can't afford it to be honest, along with a holiday and Juve games for the foreseeable future, all out the window    *gets the violin out*

I actually liked the version of Crazy because i felt it was something different stuck in the middle and was a bit of fun. Though i was never a big fan of Discotheque, well relative to their other songs anyway, so if it reminded you of that i see what you mean. Now that you've put that in my head, i probably wouldn't like that version of Crazy if i heard it again!

Actually turns out I'm seeing them in 2 weeks, a mate has a spare ticket. I was gonna wait 'til the tour next year but I'll (hopefully) be in South America then.

To be honest, I've been a bit too dance music obsessed the last coupla years so I'm pretty unfamiliar with the new album. That will change by Friday 14th though.

If you're after a setlist then this is THE place to go:
http://www.u2gigs.com/

I think it has every gig they've ever done on there, plus how many times they've played each song, when they last did, etc, etc.

Kanye West is the best artist of the 00s. Only Daft Punk and Muse come close. Not a great decade for music. Kanye's ear is fantastic, his sampling magical and his lyrics rarely better (and then, only by hip hop/rap... certainly not rock which has had a bit of a tired decade).

Quote:
Man I promise, she's so self conscious
She has no idea what she's doing in college
That major that she majored in don't make no money
But she won't drop out, her parents will look at her funny
Now, tell me that ain't insecurrre
The concept of school seems so securrre
Sophmore three yearrrs aint picked a careerrr
She like f**k it, I'll just stay down herre and do hair
Cause that's enough money to buy her a few pairs of new Airs
Cause her baby daddy don't really care
She's so precious with the peer pressure
Couldn't afford a car so she named her daughter Alexus (a Lexus)

It's his sense of humour (last line!) which is fantastic.

Quote:
an I promise, I'm so self conscious
That's why you always see me with at least one of my watches
Rollies and Pasha's done drove me crazy
I can't even pronounce nothing, pass that versace!
Then I spent 400 bucks on this
Just to be like nigga you ain't up on this!
And I can't even go to the grocery store
Without some ones thats clean and a shirt with a team
It seems we living the american dream
But the people highest up got the lowest self esteem
The prettiest people do the ugliest things
For the road to riches and diamond rings
We shine because they hate us, floss cause they degrade us
We trying to buy back our 40 acres
And for that paper, look how low we a'stoop
Even if you in a Benz, you still a nigga in a coop/coupe

I say f**k the police, thats how I treat em
We buy our way out of jail, but we can't buy freedom
We'll buy a lot of clothes when we don't really need em
Things we buy to cover up what's inside
Cause they make us hate ourself and love they wealth
That's why shortys hollering "where the ballas' at?"
Drug dealer buy Jordans, crackhead buy crack
And a white man get paid off of all of that
But I ain't even gon act holier than thou
Cause f**k it, I went to Jacob with 25 thou
Before I had a house and I'd do it again
Cause I wanna be on 106 and Park pushing a Benz
I wanna act ballerific like it's all terrific
I got a couple past due bills, I won't get specific
I got a problem with spending before I get it
We all self conscious I'm just the first to admit it

That is just tight. It's a fantastic critique of consumer culture dripping with irony and self-acknolwedgment. Classy.

And family business is great. He is surprisingly sensitive:  http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/Family-Business-lyrics-Kanye-West/C064D4A80FC01DD048256E000007806A

Kanye is not bad, but he needs to resist the temptation of rapping on abysmal tracks; see Keri Hilson, Mr Hudson etc.

Personally, i reckon the greatest Hip-Hop album of the last decade or so was 'Liquid Swords' by the Gza. Worth a listen, even if it's just on yootewb
