Wasn't sure if we had a thread covering music and the like, so thought i'd get the ball rolling.

So, anyone heard anything good recently ?

I've been listening to excellent 'Beirut' - If you have a few extra pennies, try downloading 'Nantes' . Its the work Zach Condon; a kind of one-man-gypsy-folk-troubadour. Sounds naff, i know, but try it....

Not so much 'new' but Richard Hawley Lady Bridge is absolutely brilliant.

New band around Manchester at the moment that are pretty much going to be signed any time are Twisted Wheel, their demo is really good.

I'm fiiiinally getting to see Morrissey on Friday, yay.

After that my next 'gig' should be Plump DJs and Adam Freeland at Fabric in London, both breakbeat-y/electronic goodness.

Heard plenty about them. Not had the chance to see them live yet... but it's just time. Everyone's getting giddy about The Courteeners at the minute. Album soon. Gideon Conn... look out for him.

Going seeing British Sea Power on Sunday. Should be good.

Ive seen Gideon Conn a few times at a night called Corporation Pop, interesting fella! His tunes are good though.

Courteeners are pretty good, although i cant help thinking they are on the arse end of the whole Libertines thing.....

Is that the Stalyvegas do?

Sorry mate, didn't look at your profile.

We had Gideon Conn play before the match at one of the events at FC. We've also had Little Engine (got a full page write-up in the MEN last week), Optional Wallace, The Witches, International One, LA Palsand Hedz Jelmo - if you know any of them?

I haven't heard of any of these people. But I'm looking forward to the lastest albums from OneRepublic and Lupe Fiasco

I actually liked some of Lupe's early stuff but he seems to have lost his way.

No way! Superstar alone is better (imo) than the whole of Food & Liquor! I wasn't much a fan of that album.

I would have fancied that... but I'm helping out with a drama group that the club's involved with. Shame, MoHo Live's at the bottom of my street (literally).

We've got the The Naughtys (Stretford lads) playing before the match on Saturday if you know them? Then we're going watching Gideon at Urbis afterwards as well. Should be a good do...

I take it you're from Portsmouth originally?

Well... After 4 below par songs from Morrissey, he decided to walk off stage citing an ongoing illness. Annoying, but he had admittedly said he wasn't well and was struggling to keep his voice up. The gig will apparently be rescheduled.

More annoying was someone's decision to send Russell Brand skipping on stage, laughing, to break the news. Followed by Jonathan Ross also laughing at the paying customers who are actually there for more than PR, then attempting to sing Last of the Famous International Playboys. Tossers.

The guy who isn't Matt Lucas in Little Britain also turned up, but thankfully stayed quiet.

And to rub more salt in the wounds, Plump DJs have cancelled at Fabric. I may be forced to go see Stanton Warriors (more breakbeat/breaks) next week now, though that would mean missing Scunthorpe away with Charlton. Oh noes!

Bought a few CDs yesterday (first time I've actually gone to a shop and bought discs for at least a year) and wanted to pass on my opinion of my purchases.

Lupe Fiasco - The Cool: Absolutely f**king awesome album, not disimilar to Kanye West in style and structure, but almost every tune's a winner here and there's no Chris Martin collaboration which is worth an extra 10 points on it's own.

Bloc Party - Silent Alarm / A Weekend in the City: I'm infamously late in getting in to 'the next big thing', and I bought these two albums after talking to a fella at work last week, Both are very, very good (think I prefer Silent Alarm), but there's a rather good tune on the second album called Flux that you need to hear.

Jeff Buckley - Live A L'Olympia: Probably my favourite artist of all time, this is a decent album (sound quality isn't too good) but not as good as the Mystery White Boy 95-96 live album and pales in comparison to his first studio album, Grace. Definitely one for the enthusiast.

The best news I've heard for ages is that Fopp has reopened! Or it least it has here in Bristol. Bought The Last Shadows Puppets album there today, as they were truly fantastic on Jools Holland a couple of weeks back.

Also managed to pick up The Best of Madness for £4, and Kasabian's second album for £3.

Those prices are the reason why I love Fopp (and probably the reason they went out of business in the first place).

Agree 100% about your Bloc Party musings, Mezz. Silent Prayer is by far the better album, but Flux is one of the best tracks I've heard in a long time.

lately the only CD's iv actually been purchasing are some roots reggae classics like Right Time - The Mighty Diamonds, Satta Massagana - The Abyssinains and Heart of the Congo - The Congos

Oh yea, also fairly recently got Jack Johnson's new album but was far too busy listening to In Raimbows by Radiohead to take on JJ....

Speaking of Radiohead, long time fan here and Im finally getting to go to one of their concerts here in Tampa, FL on Monday!
