I agree with Liam, i reckon Inter will get a good bounce from Ranieri but will never win anything with him.

what is everyone thinking about the Napoli game?

I'm going to go with a messy win of only 1-0 or 2-1 to Inter, of course. Although now Cavani may be out, so the old men at the back may be able to hold on a bit better.

That, and Gasp's severance package. What a nice deal for only five games...

I think Napoli will get at least a draw out of it, Mazzarri seems to learn year on year and has surpassed Ranieri. Though Inter are strong on paper and Cavani is a massive blow for Napoli but i reckon Mazzarri will have it sussed.

f***ing Forlan. Old men get hurt I guess.

Congrats to Stankovic on a great international career!

Faraoni is looking like quite a decent player, which reminds me - what on earth ever happened to Santon? A flash in the pan?

Santon thought he had made it after a couple of first team appearances and then went off the boil as he got too big for his boots. Will struggle to get into the Newcastle team. He will be back in Italy in a year or two.

Don't think it is any coincidence that we have two clean sheets with Lucio and Wall-e back in defence. Rannocchia just does not cut the mustard for me. Feel he is too nervy and a n accident waiting to happen.

Need to keep this run going now and see if we can maintain it to the derby in January.

Ranocchia does have flashes of brilliance however, but I agree, not consistent.

The table is looking a little bit better at a glance than a few months ago... hopefully that will continue

Is anyone planning to be at the Derby?

Well surprise surprise, Rannocchia plays and we leak 4 goals.
There comes a time when you have to give a primavera a shot at the back before him. Could not do any worse.

Well done to Milito for his 4 goals.
Did he need to fight with Miccoli for the match ball ??

Incredibly painful to watch. But Milito was a definite highlight.

Who from the primavera are people interested in seeing on the field?

Here is my view of a long-term plan for Inter. Take it or leave it if you will.

Give Capello his break til the summer. Let Ranieri finish off the season, and take a 'break from football.' Hire Capello.

Sell players that want to be sold. (Sneijder? Chivu?) Sell players that need to be sold. (Forlan.)

Use the money made to pay for new blood to enter the team. These guys would have to be well-scouted because they would probably not want to come from a Champions league team, to a (probably) not Champs League team like Inter. (Hopefully not, but lets be realistic with how things are going.) Take the 2012-2013 season to build a high caliber team, slowly climb up the league table, and (hopefully) do well in the Europa League. At the end, at least qualify for the 2013-2014 champions league. Then, after that, you would have a team that is unified around Capello, has been around the block in Italy once or twice together and is able to climb back to the top. During this time older players (Zanetti, Cordoba) could stick with the team until the 2013-2014 season, show the new players how it works, win the 2014 Champions League Trophy, Scudetto and Coppa Italia (while we're aiming high, lets go for the treble) and then retire nicely. Only to come back in a few years time to Inter with desk jobs or coaching positions.

I would personally like to see Moratti take a few extra cigarette breaks and try to focus on restructuring the team as a whole, not just a band-aid.

Who has any thoughts in this desolate Inter comment board?

From an outsider's point of view, I think Moratti is the problem, and that's my view even when ignoring my personal feelings on the man.

Apart from when Mourinho was in charge I've never sensed that Inter have been an efficiently run club under him, and with financial fair play around the corner he needs to cut costs and is stuck with an ageing squad he has no idea how to regenerate.

Inter should try to focus on youth, and stay patient with it.  Getting rid of Balotelli will probably be good business, but from what I can see selling Santon made no sense.  He was definitely worth keeping.  I'd also consider selling Sneijder as he seems to be becoming injury prone, and his value will only plummet.

Ranieri will be alright in the short term, but that's all he'll be good for.  Long term Moratti needs to accept his club is on a downward spiral, and get a coach in with a long term plan to revive the team.

As much as I like to see Inter wallow in the mire, a strong Inter is good for Italian football.

You're both right I think, and maybe slyly following Juve's lead in ridding the squad of dead wood and mercenaries, cutting the wage bill and bringing in people who will fight for the shirt (cliche but true) would help.

Given how poor this season has been compared to recent ones, a quiet, more humble couple of years would do you better in the long term rather than chucking more money at players in the Forlan mould.

Would Capello go to Inter? Obviously he has previous with rivals (not that it matters as much in Italy), and I couldn't see him and Moratti being the best of friends....

I like the cliche, as it may be, idea of fighting for the shirt. Young guys who know what the shirt means to many people would be ideal.  Moratti is a bit of a tough customer, but it took someone with the backbone of Jose to put him at bay while the coach ran the squad. More or less...

Haha I may be caught up in the post-FA Capello furor, but someone like him to inspire the potential new, young guys would be great. The backbone to convince even Moratti himself that a coach needed to stay. If someone like him came, that would also mean a bit more of a "commitment," as much as that word is hard to define with Moratti.  Someone that could convince people he would stay around for a few years and could focus on youth and the youth squads even.

I don't know, a bit of daydreaming on my part, but I would love to see something different than buying players and coaches.  Something of a slow, steady project to develop over a couple of years.  The players that do not want that can be sold.

Capello said he won't go to an Italian team.

Other than the Roma team, all Capello's other Italian teams were already built for him, so would he take on a team that needs to be built? I doubt it.

Long term? Capello was useless for Juve in the CL, tactically Juve were lacking in the CL under him, and it's the coach to blame when the tactics are wrong.

Moratti needs to change those at the club responsible for their transfer policy if it's going to be a policy geared towards a timescale longer than 6 months.

You're right about Ranieri needing to go, he'll never be a champion in Italy. Ranieri probably won't last till the summer because once the club owner goes into the dressing room to berate the players then the coach is immediately undermined as the players stop playing for the coach then and just go into worse form. Moratti went into the dressing room to berate, so he might as well sack Ranieri now because Moratti has ruined any chance of a revival under Ranieri now. Plus Ranieri is a 'yes-man' so he'll just agree to every player Moratti will want to buy, which is a recipe for disaster.

Inter benefited from Calciopoli and ruled in Italy whilst others chose to rebuild. They could attract the best players whilst Juve struggled and their CL victory was built on this. The team hasn't moved on and us now paying the price.
