You've probably heard this before

Okay, I'm looking for an Italian team to support, even though the Serie A is in decline, I still rate it highly above Bundesliga and La Liga. I've wanted to support a team for a like time, issue is, I liked all the team, I like Fiorentina, but that's cause of the shirts and the Arteimo Frachi, one of the best stadiums in the world, I also like Inter, infact I'd probably say Inter were the first Italian club I knew, when I got into football i saw them beat Bayern Munich, and also managed them a lot in my football management game, it was probably the shirts.

To be honest, I do like football in England, but not as much as I do in Serie A, in England, I don't mind my local team West Ham, but that's it, I know there twinned with Lazio, who I wouldn't mind supporting, until I found out about there right wing views of course

One thing I don't want is a club with those kind of views, I'm not White or of Italian Heritage at all, so I'd also like a club that will accept my as a weird brown british guy lol, one that I can visit on holidays to easy, without the heckling, I don't know truely how racist Italy is, but from shit in the news it doesn't like good.

So who do you guys recommend? I wouldn't mind any suggestions as long as they rule out the aspect of racism in the supporters base I guess

Thanks
Aero

I understand all teams have there fair share of idiots however.

If you want to follow a team in a place where you can spend a weeks holiday on the beach, how about one of the Sicily teams? Catania (battling relegation) or Palermo (Serie B but looking good for promotion back to Serie A). Naples would be okay for that too with the Neoplitan Riviera and all that. Maybe Cagliari in Sardinia? The ligurian coast is stunning as is the Amalfi coast. I could go on. Then again if it's summer holidays there's no football. For long weekends just take your pick. Most (if not all) Italian cities are full of history and culture compared to England. If you are a glory hunter then go for Juventus or a Milan club. Possibly Napoli or Roma too nowadays. If you don't mind the stress of avoiding relegation every season (bit like the Hammers) but want a club with a bit of history you can't go wrong with Genoa. I should know! I'm reluctant to say it but if you liked Inter before and like the shirts follow them. You'll also get some trophies at some point. May even play West Ham in the Europa League!?

As for the racist side of things I can't give advice of which teams or cities to avoid. Italy does seem a bit dated in it's views but obviously times are changing and as with anywhere in the world most people are alright.

Hi, thanks for the replies, I like Italian cities like Florence and Verona, Genoa wouldn't be a bad idea to be fair, great piece of writing, to be fair, I just like a club that is a-political I guess.
Duncan!

Roma of course

Support AS Roma, we could always do another Romanista on the forum. Great city, fanatical support and the odd trophy or two, what's not to like?
flotron

not sure Roma could be considered an a-political club, traditionally they are very much follow left wing politics.

then again Italy isn't the place to head if you want a-political football
Lupo Pazzesco

Traditionally left wing but Roma are more right wing now especially after all the banners against Livorno 7 or 8 seasons ago.

That was 7 or 8 years ago. Is it the norm now?

Not really sure atm

Agreed. Not sure if Italy has a-political anything does it?

Aero, If you liked Inter in the past maybe just stick with them?

I would suggest Genoa for many reasons. But I would say that every match counts as we are often fighting relegation (Not totally safe but doing okay this season). It makes that 1-1 draw away to Milan, or 3-3 draw at Fiorentina feel like a major victory. The 4-0 thrashing by Roma can be accepted with "Oh well. What did you expect?" You'll also get the response of "Who?" or "Why?" when you tell people you follow Genoa. And if you like Cricket, Genoa Cricket and Football Club (their official title) still has a cricket team. Which other Italian team can boast that?

That does it for me, it should be Genoa!

The banners were a one off at Roma in response to the injury suffered to a top Ultra whilst fighting at Livorno (if I remember correctly). There was a stadium ban and much soul searching after the match but for me it was and still remains a terrible day. Roma Girl is the one to ask re politics of the curvas at Roma as she attends most games if not banned! (The curva that is not her).

Hey, I recommend you support AC Milan.  I started supporting them 96/97 when they had one of the worst seasons ever.  However since then they've won loads of trophies and I've never regretted it.

Right now they are in a low period in the Italian league but if you wait a few seasons I believe Berlusconi the owner might sell the club to rich owners or his family will take over and invest more heavily in the club. The club has a great history, great infrastructure, great stadium and they will be big in Europe again I know it.

So AC Milan have my nomination all the way!
