Is Arturo Vidal a Ballon d'Or Contender?

For me he's the best midfielder in the world. Solid at every discipline, tackling, finishing and a solid creator. The ultimate box-to-box midfielder.

There's been a lot of talk about Ribery being the outside favorite behind Ronaldo and Messi but I really do believe Vidal has been one of a kind from his position over the last two years for club and country (Chile)

I think a lot of people forget as well that CONMEBOL WCQ is the hardest to get out of and Jorge Sampaoli is doing a masterclass with LA ROJA so far after his wonderful stint at Universidad De Chile and has won 5 of the last 6 games drawing with Brazil away.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ronaldo fell outside the top three this time - perhaps Ribery and Robben will make up the trio along with the little fella... That other unsung German dude might make the top three too.

Vidal will be lucky enough to make the top twenty.
Mezz

Utterly bizarre that a player who scored 55 goals in 55 appearances last season may not be in the world's top three according to FIFA, but I agree that Ronaldo might not make it this year.
Lupo Pazzesco

Vidal's a good but not great player. End of.

Come on give me more than that!!!
Liam

Vidal is a great player, one of the best midfielders in the world.  He has so many qualities and has proved capable of playing different roles within the team.

He won't ever win a Ballon d'Or though.
Dels

Agree with Liam.

There's probably quite a few mid-fielders in front of him who haven't won it, deserve to win it. But as long as Messi is around...

oh i know this what I'm looking for is do people agree or disagree with me that he should be held in that regard of quality player
Liam

He's not on Messi's level if that's what you mean, but then again they're different players.  I don't think he should be regarded as being alongside the top 10 players in the world, but he's a great player in his own right who has got better all the time over the last 2 years.
nino

I don't care. As long as he plays as well as he does and does it in Juventus stripes then that's all I need.
Duncan!

He's not even the best mid in Italy.  That title belongs to DDR!
Lupo Pazzesco

I wish that was true about DDR but he was very poor last season. Hopefully his renewed vigour & form of the last two games will continue and he will prove you right again Duncan!
Duncan!

He has looked fantastic for club and country so far.   Even started in defense today

Personally, I think the ballon d'or should be awarded to Bastian Schweinsteiger. Wonderful player.

If he should not win - Ribery, Lahm or Robben should win. A Bayern player should win this trophy......And I say that as a Dortmund fan.

My exact sentiments also. Schweinsteiger for me, followed by Robben and Ribery.
Duncan!

Buffon should win it
Liam

Buffon should have won it in 2006.
Duncan!

Cannavaro should have won it in 2006

Buffon this year
Duncan!

oops, I think Cannavaro did win it in 2006.

I'm getting old
Dels

Giving such awards to goalkeepers is never popular. But after the world cup 2006 that award should have been Buffon's. But I couldn't complain about Cannavaro at the time.
Duncan!

both were deserving.   I just think with what Buffon has did at juve, captaining them back to Scudetto this past year and leading Italia into World Cup again, he should get it
Dels

So you were being serious about him getting it this year? I thought you were kidding.

He won't. It should go to a Bayern Munich player, if it doesn't Messi win again. Sigh.

Oh no no I dont think he should win it but I do think imho he is a wordclass midfielder
El postaro de dios

Objectively, Vidal is a good midfielder. Yes, it's true, he plays in a great team, but he has character and great determination. And the best way to be a great player, when you play with others great players, is to motivate your teammates

I think Vidal's excellent.  I watched him in many games, the one against Lazio was the one that impressed me a lot. His anticipation, ability to run into space, his precise moving and his physicality for a guy who's short is amazing.

Id love to see him play for United EXACTLY what they need!
Dels

Its between Messi, Cristiano and Ribery.

Robben is miles ahead of Vidal...and he can't get ahead of Ronaldo and Messi...

Maybe if Vidal suddenly kicks into gear, but he'd have to get a lot of goals and probably go to Spain in the PremierLeague to be a contender. Italy just isn't in the spotlight at the moment.
Dels

Vidal's ship has sailed. Pogba >>>>>
