Forza Roma

I think the Roma game tomorrow is very nervy. We have quite a few injuries for so early in the season{how does that happen}

Palermo will be pumped for the game and I would be happy with a point to start the season, although 3 will be better
Guest

Quite the opposite then! Don't support an Italian team as such, but if there's anyone I have a soft spot for it's probably Roma..

Giuly looks to have settled in immediately, is impressive that you played like that (in the first half especially) despite there being no Juan, Mancini, Perrotta, and Pizarro (though I prefer Aquilani in to him anyway). Doni looked pretty solid throughout, hopefully he can work on his consistency.

And hopefully it won't be long before the monster that is Barusso makes his first appearance 8-)

Guest

A great performance by us last night. Although Palermo got into the game in the second half they never looked like winning the game. This is a good start.
Roma Girl

Here you all are! Is Rosa here too?? So we are all posting here now?

For 45 minutes we were AMAZING! Ive never seen roma play like that! We were running down every ball, giving 110%. Ive never seen Roma play like that. Aquilani's goal was great! We tired in the second half but at least we defended well. Giuly played well and it seems like he has always played for Roma, he fits in so well. Who will Spalletti play when Pizarro comes back from injury? Aquilani or Pizarro? Aquilani was man of the match last night. I hope we can keep thsi form up. It was a great match. Fast attacking football for 90 mins.

Rosa is registered here but I'm not sure if she's posted yet.

As far as I'm concerned, this is my Foro home now. Channel 4 can kiss my arse in the crack for all I care...
Guest

Barusso looks frightening in that photo
Duncan!

Nice 3 points. Aquilani was very impressive! Like I said, better him than Pizzaro. F'n scrub!

I still thought Vucinic was crap!
Guest

Good to see some big names coming out and showing their admiration of and respect for Roma, including Kaka, Inzaghi and Mancini.

If Totti gets injured for any substantial length of time though, I'm not sure you can keep pace with the title leaders. Hopefully as well you can keep some consistency in your form rather than play awesome one week, then draw with the likes of Ascoli or Siena the next. Guess the new additions to the squad should help that.
Duncan!

With Perrotta back, please play him instead of that f'n scrub Vucinic!!!

Lyon offering 10 mill for Mancini? Hmmmmm... Tempting but It would depend on what really is going on behind the scenes at Trigoria. If he is unhappy, sell him and get the money.
Roma Girl

Seems we have bought Antunes... anyone know anything about him?

I agree about Vucinic.. he may have improved a bit since last season but i still think he is a waste of space.

Looks like we will get Man U in the first group stages of the champions.. i dont think we'll get through the first stage this year.

30 000 season ticket holders this year so far!
Roma Girl

Nearly all of Distinti Sud sold out (season tickets)!! A big difference from last year. Cant wait for the first home came on Sunday!
Guest

Tough group :-( but with the new additions i feel we can qualify.

Does anyone know much of this 'Antunes' seems to have cost Rosi's place in the squad for the season

I will wave to you Roma Girl. At the Juve game!
Duncan!

So we spend money on a foreign young'n and loan out a promising Italian one we already own....... :-? Makes no sense to me.

I think getting to the knockout stages will be tough. Won't take anyone by surprise and we still have Mirko the great. If Totti gets injured , our goose is cooked
Roma Girl

Told you we'd get Man U! At least we have a chance for revenge... although it it isnt an easy group like Inter and Miln managed to get.

Mattistuta where will you be for the Juve game?

They are expecting 50 000 for this weekends match against Siena. Finally we are filling the stadium again.

Distinti Sud, to begin with, hopefully climb into Curva depends what police is like on the day.
My friends might enter in curva nord though, and if they don’t manage to climb across to me, I'll just stay in distinti sud.

So maybe you can see me doing my Spiderman impression into the curva, should be a good laugh for you as I struggled last time, it took me at least 3 attempts. :-(
Roma Girl

ha ha! Good Luck.. Doubt youll get tickets for Distinti Sud though... looks like it will be season ticket holders only this year...
Guest

Ah so this is where everyone has moved to?! Great champions league draw.4 tough games.Im happy we got Man U though. We can finally get revenge or play to our potential.

Great first game of the season as well.Saw the Palermo match, and we were great.Wonderful passing.Im impressed with Vucinic as well. He's played well for the super coppa and the first match.Forza Roma! :-D
Duncan!

Were you watching the same game??? Vucinic has blown chunks

Dont know what that means...but if its good :-D if not then :-( lol.
Guest

I'm here! I would say my lack of posting has been because i'm busy but that's not true at all.

Anyway, not sure how i feel about the utd draw, obviously the press here are already slaggging us off, the stadium off, the team off, the police off (ok that's deserved) i just hope we get revenge and without any fan issues.

Expecting a win against Siena later on today, but knowing roma something stupid might happen resulting in a defeat or draw!

Also what injury does mancini have and when will he be back?
Guest

I personally think that you are going to do Siena 3 or 4 nil. I've had a feeling about it since I saw the demolition of Palermo.
Guest

This season I hope we can challenge for the title as know we have a much stronger depth in squad.

Hoping for a win today but you never know what could happen :-D
Guest

It wasent the best of poformaces by roma but if we keep winning the matches at home and against the minor teams the scudetto is ours Forza Roma!
Guest

Aquilani is a beast. His shots are getting better and better.
Roma Girl

It wasnt as easy as the 3-0 suggested. Guily missed another 100 shots on goal.. at least he scored in the end. Duncan im with you on Vucinic.. he as terrible as ever... how he can start and Perrotta on the bench..i dont know! Totti finally scored his first goal and was awarded the Golden Shoe (is that whats its called in English?!). Presidente Sensi even drove into the stadium in his Merc! Aquilani is on fire. I hope he doesnt lose his place when Pizarro comes back.

The stadium is a bit strange since they made changes over the summer....but still no stewards in my area...just lots of flares! Soem things never change. The Curva Sud gets worse every week. After half an hour they were silent and the groups keep singing different songs. Let the megaphones back in!

Congrats to Panucci for getting back in the Nazionale!
Duncan!

Sweet 3 points! And Congrats to Panucci for getting the call up. He might actually start as well if Canna can't play

How can Vush!tic play over Perrotta??? Stupid!

Well, the season has started nicely indeed!
Roma Girl

Now Curci has also been called up to the Nazionale!

Sad to see Candela has retired. Is Delvecchio still training with us or did he find a team? I say let him stay and bring him out for the Derby!!
Duncan!

So Curci is good enough for Italy, but not for Roma
Guest

It's not like he's going to play for italy though is he?!

I think it's unlikely that Aquilani will lose his place in the team after the last 2 games, and if he does pizarro will have to do something pretty amazing to warrant replacing him.
Duncan!

No comments on my new name for Mirko????
Guest

doesnt quite work for me as it doesn't really rhyme.
Plus i have a friend from the same town as him and she gets very defensive when i slag him off.
Duncan!

C'mon, Vush!tic makes sense! It matches his performances. He has been sh!t.

Hopefully the Roma players playing for Italia will help give the French the beating they so richly deserve!!!

Daniel Carvalho da Silva

Ive herd that Roma are interested in signing Daniel Carvalho from CSKA Moscow hes ment to be better than rossinaldo and hes free this december, he also won russian player of the year 2005 nearly signed him in ‘04-05 and Russian media had a report about Rome being the likely destination after he turned down Barca and Arsenal. Amongst other things. heres some info on him:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Carvalho_da_Silva

Duncan!

Could be usefull. Depends on the cash wanted
Guest

Dont like the Vucinic name.....I think he's played well.Slick passing and he's freed up Totti.Sure its not the best of Vucinic since his Lecce days but still improvements.

Danny Carvalho is amazing.A very good Attacking midfield player.Solid left foot and a great hard shot.Ive been impressed with him in the CL.
Roma Girl

Cant remember the last time we played Roma-Juve at 3pm! It will be strange. Apparently the League have done it in protest as they want Sky to buy the rights to Serie B... I hope no one gets injured in the Italy game tonight. Cant believe Panucci and Aquilani didnt play against France.

I have my ticket for the first Champions League match! Just hope we get off to a winning start.
Guest

It's actually quite good news for me as it means that channel5 will be likely to show the game
Duncan!

I will now get to see it as well!!! Sweeeeeet!

Forza Panucci, De Rossi, Aquilani, and Perrotta!!!
Guest

Top of the league da sola!
Roma Girl

Juans goal was great! Just like the one Mancini scored in the Derby once. Perotta missed a shot on an empty goal... he didnt play well at all yesterday. Cicinho was good... Doni probably out of the Champions League match on Wednesday... Hopefully Juan will recover in time after going off injured yesterday.
Roma Girl

Ahhhh! this country is insane.. i swear they dont want people going to the stadium.. i spent an hour queuing for tickets for roma-juve for friends in naples only to find out that you can only purchase a ticket with an original ID document (last year you could take a photocopy or give a and date of birth) AND then i found out the Roma Stores dont sell tickets for Curva or Distinti.. ou have to go to a Lottomatica! What is wrong with this county!

Looks like the stadium ill be half empty tomorrow... only 20 000 tickets been sold so far....
Duncan!

Why? We are playing great at the moment. Hopefully we can start out the CL campaign with the full 3 points. Almost a must in our group!
Guest

Very good performance although when we were only 1-0 up at halftime i was worrying that we'd screw up (hell it is roma!) and draw. I think it's fair to say we glided through teh game without either facing great pressure or putting it on, that said after we went 2-0 up Dynamo Kiev gave up and if a ball strayed into our half it was pretty quickly disposed of!

ALSO, I've just remmebered why i hate watching post- european roma analysis on english tv .Graeme souness is a total arse; appparetly we pose no threat on the champions league, have no real "star" players and totti isn't a great player because he's never won anything (a world cup and scudetto maybe?)
Then Ruud Gullit says of course he's not a great player, why would a great player EVER stay at Roma? If he was really a great player there would've been offers from great clubs like Milan or Real Madrid (which i could've sworn there have been throughout his career) then he would've won the champions league. Roque Junior won the champions league- hardly a great player. Richard Keys and Jamie Redknapp of all people were defending him )(they're usually the first to criticise Roma and above all francesco)
Plus my mum kept calling Aquilani a wimp! *end of rant*

I'm really not looking forward to our ridiculous fixture list over the next few weeks!
Duncan!

A great way to start out in the CL. I see the Italian team that actually plays Italians got the win. Throw in a few Brazilians and you can't miss.

{as opposed to the Argentine national team in Milan]

Glad I don;t have to listen to the anti-Italian thing from the commentators here. We mostly see the English teams anyways. Today we were given Man. U- Sporting {yawn} by ESPN.
Guest

Good start to CL, a couple of seasons ago it would have either been a draw or loss.
I'd rather have Aquilani in the team than Pizarro due to his form but also he's homegrown and deserves his chance.
Roma Girl

Grande Roma! We still havent conceeded a goal.. hope we can keep this up with Juve, Fiorentina, Inter and Man U to play in the next 10 days!!

Giuly should have scored...again... Juan has fit into the team so well. Good to see Mancini back in the team.

We even had stewards in Curva Sud last night! Shocking! Love the way they take my dangerous bottle of water off me, yet let you take in drugs and bombs/flares.... Finally we had a megaphone in the Curva.. not sure how they managed that one but at least he helped to get the chanting a bit more coordinated as its become quite lame lately.

Roma girl, have the put up alot of cameras? CCTV in distinti and curva?

Doubt I can climb if they have

We're the stewards just for the champions league? seemed weird having a divide in the curva.
Roma Girl

They have cameras every where now. They didnt have stewards in the curva for the first match in the league...i think it was only for the Champions League... not so many people climb over any more.

60,000 tickets have been sold so hopefully the stadium will be full.

This is not news about buffon, i read in an interview, i think in the football italia magazine that he almost moved to Roma in 2001 but they didn't but in a high enough bid in the end or something.

Anyway why have buffon when you have erm Doni....

postphoned going back to uni in order to watch the game, which is probably a curse...
Duncan!

It would have been sweet to have Buffon, instead of Buffoon, which we have now.

I doubt we could have matched 33 mill though that he got from Juve.

Big game tomorrow on very early here tomorrow-- must set the alarm!!!

FORZA ROMA!!!!
Guest

as soon as they got that throw in by that corner i thought they'd score
we really need to finish more, we could've been 3-1 if not more up against juve and the same was true of Kiev.

That said we are playing some amazing football at the moment.

Why was that initially a Roma throw and then after a long while the ref seemed to change his mind???
Though Roma were a class above Juve and should've killed the game off.
One thing I didn't get; Aquilani was playing deep with De Rossi with Perrotta a bit more advanced. Surely, it should've been Aquilani advanced and Perrotta deep. Perrotta's miss was absolutely awful.
Guest

from Channel 4

Quote:
Mancini furious at flighty Inter
Roberto Mancini criticised his Roma squad for their attitude at Livorno, while Nando Orsi insists his men deserved all three points
Guest

Roma could have won it but this is what happens when a team does not score from direct chances. Juve played with no real midfield given the injuries and only Zanetti seemed to have done a good job. This is exactly what happend to Juve against Udinese. Alex hits the post three times and we miss a couple of direct chances and lose the game.

One thing for sure, none of the teams in Serie A sees to be a stretch ahead of the pack. It is going to be an interesting season.
Duncan!

Even though we got a point, I am disappointed. We should have killed this game off. We were the better team, but that's soccer.[footy]

The doofus' over on the Juve thread actually think ADP was better than Totti!!! [Dylan excepted}
Roma Girl

We should have won.. we had so many chances.. thats what makes it worse. We would have been 4 points clear at the top as well. Cicinho took too long to throw in the ball so it was gievn to Juve and they scored... Cant believe how may chances we had..we should have been 5-1 up.

What was the hugging and swapping shirts all about in the middle of the pitch at the end of the game?!

These matches just arent the same any more without the banners and choreography...

Yep with Crapone-Pupone offside and Pierino missing a spot kick.

Intersting you say that. Only thing I recall, doofus, is you posting something on the thread saying Totti is better than ADP. I do not recall anyone responding to this although I did say and here I am saying it again: you conceded two goals and lost two points...this is your problem not ours but it sort of shows which team has championship spirit and which one lacks confidence to finish off games when it matters. Unfortunately, we are not strong enough at the moment to go to the Olimpico and win 4/1, but we will in a year or so.
Roma Girl

hahaha! Someones living in a dreamworld!
Guest

I was surprised at the expectations before this match for Roma, as I believe they were deluding themselves with their own hype. While their record and form is indeed a fact, I can't help but draw comparisons to last season start and expectations; with basically the same team they started out last season strong only to stutter.

At the very least, this season is proving to be an interesting one indeed.
Guest

really enjoyed myself at the game, apart from the final moments and the result.

not much more to say, Perrotta terrible, Mexes sleep when he should know of Trezeguet danger, Cicinho sleep when the long throw is blatantly coming in. Wasn't too impressed with Juan on the ball, he needs more time to get comfortable.

Unlucky, but the other results came in for us.

On to viola
Duncan!

Tough game with Fiorentina coming up. If we would have got 3 from Juve , a draw in Florence would be decent. But now want the 3 on Wednesday.

I don;t think Totti can play upfront on his own over 3 competitions regularly. But who else is there? Vucinic-
Guest

I'm always impressed by Totti's ability toplay as a lone striker, and still score goals. It's a testimony to the man's talent as an all-round footballer. That said, he sucks for the azzuri though.
Roma Girl

Totti and Perotta both out of the game tomorrow.
Duncan!

Not a great result considering we were winning at the end and could have all 3 points.

Still, a point in Florence isn't TOO bad.

Doni back to his usual sad @ss self
Roma Girl

Another 2 points lost....and Taddei is nowout of the game against Inter and Manchester. Again we had chances to score and didnt. the Ref was terrible. Mexes got a yellow card for no reason, while the Fiorentina players got away with murder. Aquilani was again the best on the pitch. As for Vucinic... i hate him! He is useless... he just cant score!

The game with inter is now a must in.

I believe yesterday was a bad day at the office for the Romolini.

They will get a result in Manchester.
Duncan!

I hope so, but am not overly optimistic.

Watching Roma this year I have come to a few conclusions of my own: [feel free to discuss]

We seem to be to light in the middle. When I saw that Pizarro AND Giuly were starting yesterday, I had a bad feeling.

With Totti upfront, we also don;t have a physical presence upfront which can further our light weight feel.

I don;t think we will challenge for the Scudetto or CL with our present formation. Other teams are getting in on it, no matter how nice we can play sometimes

Vucinic sucks still, and don't like Pizarro

I would go with more of a 442, but we need a physical presence upfront with Totti; De Rossi and Aquilani/Perrotta in center mid roles. Just some thoughts after watching us get waxed yesterday
Guest

I thought Roma could conquer OT but it's not without the existance of Teddei,Perrotta and Aquilani. The former two was the reason of the 7-1 defeat last season as thier absence made Roma lost their rhythm and incompetent to control the midfield. But they two plus Aquilani will be out of action again......

The performance of Roma in the early season with 3 sucessive wins without conceding any goals shown their 4-2-3-1 system could beat any team and i think they are the favourite of scrambling Scudetto but i doubt the alternatives could do the job.

and please no Cassetti as he could do nothing to stop C Ronaldo....

Good luck for the Tuesday match

Duncan! wrote:

I do agree that some of our players in midfield do lack some strength especially when it comes to one-on-one situations. But instead they are either fast or very good with the ball or both. And that is basically what our system is based on. Having players who are merely physical would slow down our style of playing. Now when we are playing the ball into the box, mainly from the flanks, we have at least 3 or 4 players there that can score the goal. What we need to be is more clinical when we get the chances.

I wouldn´t be too worried about other teams getting "in on it" as we have played this way for sometime now.

I believe any team in the world would find it hard to play against Inter with ten men.
Roma Girl

Terrible! The stadium emptied 20 minutes before the end. Not that it was full to start with anyway. Giuly is paid more than enough not to play football like i do.. what was he thinking?! Not that we had impressed much up until that point. Totti was terrible and we really missed Aquilani. We just werent in the game at all... after Parma next weekend we have Napoli, Milan and Lazio in a row... things dont look good for us. As for Man U tom..we dont have a hope in hell.
blackandblue

I have to say that Pizarro is one of those players that I wasn't too upset we moved on. He can be terrific, I've seen him surrounded by players and with one move find space and be gone. However, if you are physical against him he will disappear. If only he was a foot taller (and wider) he'd be awesome.
Roma Girl

We really lack height in general. Pizarro, Esposito, Guily, Cicinho are all tint.. Inter were like giants compared to us.

Panucci out of the Man U match...

Man Utd have hardly set the world alight this season. Roma have to attack it's the only way they'll get anything from the game, should be a fascinating watch.
Roma Girl

Curva Fiesole - I think you can book tickets on listicket from the UK as you pay by credit card and then collect them someone where over here. For the tennis and football in rome you collect then from an office next to the stadium a few hours before the game.

No Panucci tonight, Totti has a bad back but should play, Aquilani doesnt have a full 90 mins in him so wont start...
Roma Girl

I have a horrible feeling the league will be looking for excuses to play Roma- Napoli (our next home game) a porte chiuse (without fans). Banning Napoli fans from travelling wont work..they will still come. They were filming and taking photos of the curva sud on saturday.. we'll see... Napoli fans were banned from their home stadium last week, are banned from traveling to the San Siro this weekend.. this is starting to become a bit of a joke! They want to give Toro a stadium ban of a year and Juve 10 match ban... insane.. it seems juve fans dressed as Toro fans on sunday so they could get amongst them and fight.. At this rate football will be played at empty stadiums....

Arrogant, pretentious wanker, or what?

For tonight, I say "Forza Roma!"

I would have to go with "or what" there, Bracey.

I find it absolutely pathetic that, when somone is better than most at something and acknowledges the fact publicly, they're labelled 'arrogant' or 'pretentious'.

The boy's a superstar. Deal with it.
Guest

The "I'm so good that the others beg for mercy" attitude is hardly the way to go about it though, is it? But because he plays for United then you'd defend him.

No doubt he's a good player, but so is Kaka and he (Kaka) would never say anything as self-gratifying.

I'd give him a bit of rope if United actually won the competition, however, the "superstar" went missing in the semi-final. Where oh where were the "dribbles" of the genius when he and United got pissed on at the San Siro? Fair-weather, big-time bottler if you ask me.
Curva Fiesole

If you read the article to the end Bracey, you'll see he's being quoted from his book and would, therefore, have said this ages ago. Some journalist at the BBC is obviously trying to stoke things up which, given the events in Rome and Manchester last time, is about as sensible as renaming the Blue Peter cat.

It will be a better game tonight, with Manchester not yet firing on all cylinders this season and Roma enjoying a good start to the season. I for one am looking forward to a good contest more than anything else.

It will be interesting to see how Roma change things, i don't think they should pander too much to Ronaldo. The important thing is to get settled early and let Manchester know that they are going to have to work hard to get the ball back.

Roma need to show maturity at the back, as Manchester will be looking for free kicks in and around the penalty area. Moreover, the referee needs to show a good understanding of the occasion.

My prediction, a close fought 1-1 draw.
Mezz

Perhaps unsurprisingly, I'm expecting Man United to win tonight but in a far less emphatic style than last year's fixture at Old Trafford.

Although we haven't been putting many away, I've had a feeling over the last two or three games that some unfortunate team is on the verge of being done over big time by us.

We have a few injury concerns, but I reckon we still have enough to put Roma away tonight.

Here's to an exciting and fair game anyway.
