CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL PREDICTIONS

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL – 27 MAY

Like last year ... for the final, you have to predict the actual score (which, if the game goes to extra time, will be the result used after extra time but before any penalty shoot-out) and the eventual winner.

There's 3 points up for grabs - you'll get one point for predicting the right outcome, a bonus for predicting the actual score, and a bonus for predicting the winner.

If anyone wants to send me their predictions by private message, that's no problem ... however, as I'm currently second in the table, one point behind Liam ... Liam might prefer to send his predictions to Myles instead.

Barcelona v Man Utd
Myles

Yeah, anyone can send their CL predictions to me and i'll post them on this thread after kickoff.

We might have gone home on our own, but at least we were invited to the f**king party in the first place...
Lupo Pazzesco

Nicely put.

Think I may have found the 'most bonkers post match comment' prize-winner already...

From the Times 'Have Your Say [in Green wax crayon]' piece after the match report:

Quote:
You've let the club, the players and the fans down. Poor performance all around "Sir" Alex. RESIGN!!

Jane Silver, Essex, UK

Someone needs to check the straps on the arms of her jacket...
Myles

Maybe she's only one day old!
Dave

This is er..... brave:

It's all your fault Sir Alex

Perhaps young Christiano posts on the Times website under the name of Jane Silver?
Sir George

I spent the early part of this week in Manchester and was surprised that all my Scumchester-supporting in-laws were very confident of victory.  The only debate was how much of a beating Barca were going to take.  My suggestions that Barca under-performed against Chelsea and that they had in their line-up 3 of the best 4 footballers on the planet were very much pooh-poohed.  Their analysis was that Barca were flat-track bullies who couldn't cut it against the big boys of the Prem.  The fact that United have lost to pretty much every decent teams they've played this season and couldn't score against Villareal was all regarded as inadmissable evidence.  Barca wouldn't be able to cope with United's array of attacking talent.....I think this degree of myopia was widespread amongst Manure fans and, I suspect, among some of their overblown players too.  The game must have come as a terrible shock.  Poor folk.  Never mind.  I don't think I've ever enjoyed a game of football more.   The only disappointing thing was that Barca spared Manure the sort of severe multiple-goal beating for which they were crying out!

The grudging praise of Barca in some English quarters has been comical.  My favourite criticism, heard more than once, is "Barcelona have no Plan B."  Very, very funny.

Messi's goal, Xabi's cross, Iniesta toying with the United midfield, Eto creating space out of nothing, Barca passing it almost telepathically, Pique and Puyol marshalling the defence; It just couldn't get any better.

Haha what a terrible cliche. I've probably seen Barca around 30-40 times this season and I can honestly say the only time they resorted to a 'Plan B' was in an away match early in the season when they were playing on a water-logged pitch and Guardiola encouraged his play to hoof the ball long.

Who needs a Plan B when Plan A is so damn good...?

This team have been an absolute joy to watch. Countless weekends my mates would be raving about the big teams in the prem, and I'd be like 'oh that Barca are really really good too' only to be dismissed sharply on grounds that La Liga was 'obviously' a shit league in comparison to the mighty Premiership.
You know the 'mighty' league in which sides accumulate 35 points and still aren't relegated. Where the prinicple ambition of 75% of the competition is simply to remain in this 'mighty' leage and where 'mighty' Fulham are the 7th best team.

I feel oddly vindicated.

These Man U fans don't take to losing much do they?  Dreadful shower!  The ref was okay in the final, but it was very poor that Scholes and Vidic weren't sent off for their own acts of vengeful violence.

Yes, I had a similar experience over the season zeds and obviously the below-par performance against Chelsea led to the outbreak of "No Plan B itis".  And the fact that most English fans and journalists had only seen Barca in these 2 Chelsea games was probably the main reason for the highly peculiar and widespread ignorance of what I think is the best football team ever.  It's not just that Xavi, Messi and Iniesta are 3 of the best 4 players in the world, the functioning of the team as a unit has been truly spectacular.

I take issue a bit with what you said about the rain-drenched game.  They won 4-1 ish I think and played superbly well if memory serves (which maybe it doesn't).  I thought the long-balls were accurate passes rather than the sort of hoofs up field so beloved of Michael Carrick, aka "the best passer of the ball on the field" according to Tyldesley.

Chelsea are like an Everton to Barca. A difficult side play against who were tactically disciplined and from time to time beat top sides... But it’s clear which team is better. Or a bit like how that great Arsenal side of a few years back could never beat Bolton because Bolton's style was a complete anithesis to Wenger's and perfect in a way to stop them.

My point about the rainy game was that the one time Barca changed their style it was caused by the pitch and the weather as opposed to the tactics of any opposition they've faced this season.
It was sad to see the English media highlighting Anderson's poor performance, when I think Carrick (a player I usually like) was truly abysmal and far more wasteful than anyone.

Carrick's English! What you chatting about? He can't be cussed. And his arian blood is worth far more than the inbred Brazilian's/

That made me laugh when he said that.

Barcelona played well and deserved to win.  I'm very happy they won.

I've also won this championship again for the 3rd season in a row!

Do I get to keep the trophy now?
Jay

As only Myles, SoniaA and zeds predicted a Barca win, they each get 2 points ... everyone else - no score
