Calcio's Greatest Forwards

Hi guys,

So I'm currently working with Football Italia, amongst other places, and at the minute writing a new book on Italian football in English. It won't be out until early next year, but if you checked out the official page that would be great to gain extra insight into it.

https://www.facebook.com/CalciosGreatestForwards

I hope it is of interest to you guys, and I'll be in touch in the near future closer to release. Thank you!
Lupo Pazzesco

Thanks for the headsup.
Myles

If you can't get it out for this years Christmas market then maybe you should hold it's release for the following year. I'm guessing most books are released in November.

Who are the 21 players, or is that kind of a secret for now?

Hi,

We decided on March due to the Euro 2016 Championship and expect it to sell well regardless with Marcotti having done the foreword for it and many other respected writers and journalists (including John Foot, Paolo Bandini, James Horncastle) etc contributing.

It will be promoted throughout the early year and expect a good stream of sales for 12 months so it includes Christmas 2016. Most people want to read it over the summer when league football finishes so it suits it well alongside the Euros.
Myles

Sounds good.

Silvio Piola is Italian football's best goal scorer.

We may argue about Del Piero, Totti, Baggio...

But Piola has the actual goals to back his claim for Italy's best goal scorer.

If not him then Paolo Rossi.

I say Paolo Rossi is Calco's greatest forward. But Piola the best scorer of goals.

Baggio
Dels

I watched a bit of Baggio last night as well. Stopped when it came to 1994, it just upsets me.
Liam

In my footballing memory (from around 1994 onwards) Baggio is the greatest.  He seemed to be appreciated more by fans than his coaches which was a shame.  The ovation he got in the San Siro in his last game with Brescia was wonderful.

Love the artwork George – compliments to the artist! Looks like it's going to be a great book.
Duncan!

I actually remember Baggio at Fiorentina.   Masterclass.

I will never forgive Vicini for not starting him with Toto Schillaci against Argentina in the semi's of Italia 90.   They had formed such a great partnership and for some delusional ass reason Vicini dropped him and started Vialli in the semi final.

What a footballer. Such a talent
Myles

I started following Italian football after Italia '90 when RTE2 showed a magazine program on Monday evenings. Baggio being the main reason why i started supporting Juve. Just imagine, if i'd seen Italian football before Italia '90 i might be a Fiorentina supporter now

I have a Juve-Dortmund game i recorded on video where Baggio scores literally the most accurate freekick ever and Peter Brackley commentating says during the slow-mo replay as the ball is floating in the air:- "It's inconceivable that any goalkeeper in the world could have saved such an accurate delivery from the Juve number 10". It's pure class.
GeorgeRinaldi

Glad to see everyone is looking forward to the book, especially Baggio's section. And yes, the artwork and illustrations included have been very well done, pleased with them tenfold.

The cover illustration, of which took me an eternity to decide what to go with and also for the illustrator (Steve Welsh) to conjure up, will be posted on Twitter and the FB page very soon.

Release date should be in the next couple of months.

Thanks again.
Duncan!

will it be available in the USA?

I'll join the others and praise the cover.  Good job.

Forwards are great. And there are many debates on great forwards...

.....But defending is an art and we all know who is the greatest defender of all time is, of that fact there's no debate....

Duncan!

Hard to argue with that.

That was wonderful. Thanks D. x

It still pains me that it wasn't Maldini holding the world cup in 2006. It should have been him.
Duncan!

He should have held it in 1990 and 1994 as well....... ugh

stupid pk's

oh and 2002 too.  Crooked FIFA

It still pains me that he has retired and that defenders these days are quite rubbish in comparison to His Greatness.
Dels

I know. Paolo Maldini was unique. There is no greater AC Milan player or actual defender.
