Calcio is gay

How does Moggi get coverage? Im struggling to see the difference between him and Jade Goody. It's literally a case of saying the most stupid, outrageous crap possible and hoping he gets a few square inches in the papers.

Quote:
“I would never have wanted a homosexual player. Even today I wouldn’t buy one. Supposing I were to make a mistake and I found one of them, he would be the first to go.”
But first Moggi would have to give them a test run, just to be sure they were really gay

Quote:
“I am a little old-fashioned. But I know the football world and its insides. You cannot live within it as a gay. A homosexual cannot be a footballer.”
Of course, a gay man would never be able to pose like David Beckham on the side of a bus in his tiny pants with waxed chest and blonde highlights

Quote:

“In calcio there are no homosexuals, neither between players nor among directors. It’s not racism, it’s fact. Football has a particular environment, you get naked in the dressing room...”

That last one is the most acceptable because it's just a statement of fact. But an observation isn't enough for this moron so he pipes up that "It's not racism". Which is incredibly insightful.

A few questions:
I know racism has a harder core both in football and society at large in Italy. Is it the same with homophobia?
Can anyone think of any gay footballers?
diatribe

There are gay footballers in Italy, just like there are over here; you can't have that many men, a few hundred alone in Serie A, and at least not have a few. It's kept quiet though for fear of ridicule, which is a shame as if one or two players came out then a few more would follow trend and it would be a bit less taboo.

Over here we've only had rumours, John O'Shea, Darren Ambrose, Sol Campbell... Most of them having been linked to Will Young one way or another.

Edit: Oh, and Guti at Madrid. He dated a transsexual briefly (knowingly or not I don't know) and ever since has had chants directed his way.

Slightly off topic, but I've heard rumours 5 time MotoGP champ Valentino Rossi is gay. He's 28(ish) now, never had a girlfriend at the circuit, never been photographed out with one, yet has his "best friend" Uccio about after the race for hugs and the occassional kiss. Not that I care mind, would just make him even more of a unique and interesting character.

Justin Fashanu was the only openly gay footballer i've ever heard of. Scored goal of the season for Norwich around '89 ( and it was a belter ),played for Hearts for a brief time which gave Hibs fans great amusement. Sadly he commited suicide not long after that.

The sick joke of the time was that he killed himself because he was ashamed......of having played for Hearts. At least it was here in Edinburgh, probably in Ipswich they substituted Hearts for Norwich.

Can't remember exactly how his brother John dealt with his homosexuality, but i do recall Steve Bunce saying that Fash was pretty scathing toward Justin.

After seeing that idiot Moggi's comments, I really set to thinking who could/would be gay in football...
Some obvious names come to mind like C. Ronaldo...  hahahah

But really, I cant think of anyone in Italy I really suspect.... Maybe im oblivious, but Camo's hairdo (or lack thereof) is the closest thing to being gay I can think of in Italy right now

Regards V. Rossi... I never thought of it, MotoGP is even more macho than f1 and has girls up on the podium etc.. Always considered it more 'sexy' than f1 cause of all the girls parading about

There's bound to be gay footballers in Italy.  As Diatribe said there are a few hundred players in Serie A and as footballers are a section of society there will be gay ones.

I must admit I do enjoy reading Moggi's comments normally, but his homosexual ones were a bit stupid.  He definitely should have kept those thoughts to himself.

All Italian footballers are gay...or so i was told every single day when i was at school.

FF - Fashanu's goal of the season was, alarmingly, in 1980 - came in a 5-3 defeat to Liverpool in which David Fairclough ('super-sub') scored a hat-trick, if I recall (also the final appearance of the Norwich goalie Kelvin Keelan for the team). Nearly 30 years ago...

They're all gay, aren't they, those Ities! With their long hair and that, rolling round on the pitch like they've been shot, the big girls. And they were gloves! Poofs, surely. They just want to go home to their mama. Ha!

Apparently Max Clifford has twice been approached by Premiership clubs to help 'straighten out' the image of one of their players.

I read that Max Clifford quote too, but seeing as it came from Max Clifford himself I suspected it was a load of old bollocks...
