As of next week I'll be in Italy for a couple of weeks. I'll be in Florence for a couple of days at the end of the week/weekend when there is no league matches due to the international games and again the following weekend. As such I'm looking to go to the Fiorentina V Atalanta match. How big a derby match is this? Will I be able to buy tickets when I'm in town the week before/on the day?

Any advice about where to go for the best matchday experience in and outside of the ground etc much appreciated.

Cheers
Mezz

Fiorentina v Atalanta isn't a derby at all, fella.

Tickets should be relatively easy to come by. Firstly, try the the Toto booth on Piazza della Republica on the Tuesday prior to the game (try and get there as early as possible, between 8:00am-9:00am is a good slot).

In the unlikely event that you find yourself near the stadium prior to match day, you can try either Bar Maresi or Bar Stadio. I can't remember what street Stadio is on, but Maresi is on Via Manfredo Fantini, right opposite the main stand.

If you find yourself unsuccessful with any of the above, there's always the touts outside the ground. Expect to pay at least a 50% mark-up on the ticket price though.

Inside the ground, the Curva Fiesole is the place to be but you'll never find a spare ticket. I've always found myself in the Maratona or the Curva Ferrovia, both of which provide great views.

Best of luck with the ticket hunt!
ForzaFiori

Good result tonight. Kuzmanovich seems to be doing well already, I look forward to seeing him when C5 get round to showing a Fiorentina game.
Speaking of which, saw their coverage for the 1st time on Sunday, not exactly the best presenters, pundits or commentators but at least it's back on terrestrial TV.
Guest

A fair result tonight.. a bit unlucky not to pull it out late with the upright getting in the way. Nice little move by Santana on the equalizer.
Curva Fiesole

Hello all - been sunning meself in Spain for two weeks but I'm back and on the forum.

Nice to see so many old faces.

Ane Mezz and I are Site Admins - oh the power, I'll have to contact the C4 Mods to see how it's done!

ACF - Milan

Hi everyone ~ maybe you can give me some help? I'm hoping to bring a group to Firenze in Feb, coincides with the Milan match, could I contact the club or any other suggestions re reserving a block of tickets? probably 20 or 25 of us (womens football team) would be a great thrill if we could go.
Curva Fiesole

You can e-mail the ticket office at biglietteria@acffiorentina.it - otherwise, follow the advice that Mezz gave above

ok thanks - we'll be arriving on the saturday and leaving monday so it would be great to get it organised in advance. I'll let ye know if we make it in.
Oh! How soon are the match days & times fixed? as in, how soon do we know whether a game is saturday/sunday afternoon/evening? I've been to a few games in Rome & Milan but the day has never been a concern for me before.
Sorry for the noobie questions but there's not a whole pile of info out there re Fiorentina. Thanks again
Curva Fiesole

It is usually about two weeks before the matches that TV games are sorted out.

Check this link http://www.lega-calcio.it/eng/atim_calendario.shtml closer to the time for confirmation of the exact date and time. As the game is in early February there aren't any Champions League or UEFA Cup matches to mess things around.

Come back for anything else you want to know, there are a few Viola fans on here.

I was quite disappointed that we weren't able to put Atalanta away on Sunday.

We seem to be scoring enough bearing in mind the absence of Toni, but it seems like the defence is lacking somewhat this year.

Don't think Vanden Borre has been given much of a run out so far, maybe now's the time? Pasqual and AVB bombing down the flanks sounds pretty good to me if Donadel is prepared to run back and cover the defence more often than he's been doing recently.

I think there's a real chance that we could nick a Champions League spot this year along with Milan, Roma and Inter, but consistency early on in the season is key.
ForzaFiori

I thought VDB would go straight in to the team. I'm pretty sure he had been a first choice at Anderlecht since the age of 16.

4th spot is a distinct possibility, Lazio haven't started great and neither have Juve. I'd still like to see us try and win the Uefa Cup, Bayern aside there aren't any teams for us to fear, of course we'll have to see who drops down from the Champions League later on.

Does anyone know much about Osvaldo? I know he was at Lecce on loan from Atalanta last season, but that's about it.
Mezz

Great result tonight against Livorno with Osvaldo bagging a couple.

Second in the table, perhaps Five will take notice of us now and show at least one of our f**king games this season...
Guest

Hi guys,Calcioro in the past here. Seens better design and confortable view here.

I am still a bit worried about Pazzini as he has scored only 1 goal in 6 weeks and the center forward's very important in our tactics.I have high expectation of him and i think he can make it but luck is not on his side now.

Osvaldo recalls me the memory of Reginaldo as they shined in their debut and both play in flanks with nice dribbling skills. It seems Osvaldo has better finishing but his speed and cross weren't shown last night. Should be an ideal replacement once Mutu can't contribute to the team.

haha ,finve points heading Milan and 2 points behind Inter now.Kiss our 2nd second seat and maybe the first place later.Since the mid-table teams and lower-table teams could be a strong obstacle with Milan and Juventus are not in their best form,to be serious,we could challedge for Scudetto this season.
Guest

Terrific win yesterday. Osvaldo looks good, two fantastic finishes. We've got a terrific array of talent upfront, although I'd agree with Masson that Pazzini's lack of goals is slightly worrying, though I'm sure he'll come good. It'll be interesting to see the side Prandelli picks for the Juve game.

Fiorentina v Juventus, live on Five next weekend. It's gonna be the first weekend in my new flat, can't think of a better way to spend it.
Guest

I'm very surprises as we are on the verge of being eliminated tonight. With playing at home massacre was expected for me but we resorted to kick them out by penalty. After the first round,i'm a bit worried about the future of our European road on the ground that we couldn't finish Groningen which stayed in the mid-table of Dutch League in 90 minutes.

What's up with the other Italian teams in UEFA CUP????sorry to see them being elimilated....
ForzaFiori

Scraped through last night. Obviously hope we get more home games than away in the groups. Also hope we get drawn with Aberdeen.
Guest

Wonderful goal by Pazzini today and it should be a big boost for him with breaking the drought. We climb to the 2nd place again with 6 points heading Milan and Lazio.I'll be more pleased if Genoa stopped Juventus tonight. Would it be daydream if we fight for Scudetto this season? It's a good chance actually no the ground that we are in good form and Milan and Juventus are dealing their problems.

Time to conquer Villareal!

Forza Pazzi
Mezz

1-0 up at half time through a Vieri goal.

Not bad away to Villarreal...
zeds

The Vieri goal came about after some brilliant build-up play.
Villareal equalised from a header off a Rossi free kick.
Still not a bad result at the Madrigal.

By the way how on earth can Man Utd allow Rossi to leave?
ForzaFiori

Good result away at Villareal, that'll do for starters.

On Rossi, he banged them in for Utd reserves but couldn't really take that form into the first team. That and the fact Sir Alex thought he'd have Solskjaer still playing.

Interesting that Arsenal and United raided Barca (for Cesc and Pique) and Parma (for Rossi and Lupoli) at the same time and only the Spaniards remain in England.
Curva Fiesole

Rossi has been sold to Villareal, but United have first dibs if he is ever transferred in the future.
Guest

Poor Ref in Villarreal's match. We should have grabbed a 3-1 victory that night.

I think the style of Premiership doesn't suit Rossi as he's weak in body and his skills could be well used in La Liga or Serie A.

PS,actually i can't see the future of Lupoli here as there has benn Vieri and Osvaldo in front of him and Cacia for the future.

Half-Time: Genoa 0-0 Fiorentina
Mezz

Watched tonight's match live through the glory that is Bet365.

I think we probably shaded it overall, but our shooting was absolutely diabolical with Pazzini being the biggest culprit. Kuzmanovic was a close second (f*ck me, he looks like Ibrahimovic... poor sod).

Mutu and Semioli were decent but never looked all that dangerous, and thank God for Sebastien Frey.

Napoli on Wednesday.

Just got back from a long weekend in Firenze and Tuscany. I am not exaggerating when I say it is the most accomplished, stunning place I've seen in my life.
Myles

My favourite place in the world, jaw-dropping, even the most rundown building is a work of art!
Mezz

I guess that this time of year would have been one of the best times to see Firenze too, Bracey... it's absolutely mobbed in the summer, but even with the crowds it's a stunning city and will remain my favourite place on earth for the foreseeable future.

Also, my favourite restaurant is there too, Trattoria Baldovino just off of Piazza Santa Croce.

Owned and operated by a Scotsman too!

I'll be in Florence end of this month but theyre playing away that weekend (and I'm running a marathon so probably wouldn't fancy sitting down cramping through a match ) ... but looking forward to the city anyway. Still trying to get a response from the club re booking tickets for match in february, emailed twice and wrote them a letter but nothing back yet. any advice?

zeds

What on earth was that Lazio keeper thinking last night? the goal was very very funny
Mezz

Although it's hardly the crowning moment of our season to date, we absolutely destroyed Elfsborg this evening. We could have had about 12.

Donadel's goal was a screamer, and we looked really strong all over the pitch despite Mutu, Pazzini, Dainelli and Montolivio not starting and Kuzmanovic and Pasqual coming on as late subs.

All looks good in the 'hood at the moment...
Mezz

Just realised that our game is live on Five NOW!
Guest

im in Florence for the weekend, where can I watch the match with a beer?
Mezz

I've never watched Fiorentina in Florence without actually being in the Artemio Franchi, so I couldn't say for sure.

I would imagine that Bar Stadio and Bar Marisa out by the stadium would be safe bets, but I can't say that I've stumbled upon any bar in Central Florence showing live football any time I've been there...
Curva Fiesole

There is a good bar at the east end of Via del Corso (might be the Borgo Degli Albizi by then) which shows Serie A matches live, it's on your left as you walk away from the city centre, or try the bars in Piazza del Mercato Centrale, just behind the San Lorenzo market. I've managed to watch Fiorentina matches in these bars when they've been away.

Sad news indeed.
blackandblue

Great shame for the man and his family.
Mezz

Pretty poor performance all round today from Fiorentina.

Mutu looked out of sorts, as did Donadel and Pazzini, and Vieri just looked like a tired old carthorse.

It would have been nice to have landed at least a point bearing in mind the signifcance of the day, but hey, we're only 7 points off the top...
blackandblue

What's this rubbish from Lega Calcio? http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/dec2s.html Don't they want better atmospheres in grounds? Don't they want more respect between players? I was very impressed by Fiorentina yesterday, football aside.
ForzaFiori

Can't believe you have to ask permission to shake hands after the game.Ridiculous!

We've not been great in the past few games in the league, to be expected I suppose with all that's happened recently.

Nice result in Athens though, just Boleslav to go.

Did everyone form a guard of honour and shake hands at the end ?
Mezz

1-0 up at half time against Mil... Myl.. Mul... that Czech team who we're playing in the UEFA Cup.

Mutu penalty.
ForzaFiori

2-1 in the end, 2nd in the group.

Not exactly sure how this convoluted draw later today will work out for us. I know the group winners get drawn against 3rd place teams, so I assume we may get 1 of the Champions league drop-outs.

Fiorentina Milan

Hey guys - listen i'm off to Florence first weekend in feb. hope to get a bunch of tickets for the Milan game.

Anyway, I haven't been before to the Stadio so any tips for me? Do they sell coffees/beers/food etc inside like in other stadia? I'm bringin a bunch of women on a trip there. Whats the atmos like these days do any of you know? I mean since the security restrictions etc.

What will ticket prices be like?

I've tried to correspond with the club regarding tickets but they said they can't help. Listicket said if i wanted to buy more than 6 tickets i had to talk to the club...Catch 22 eh?

I'm really looking forward to it - would be a good introduction to pro football for some of the group don't you think?
Mezz

This one's easy:

You've got as much chance of landing a single ticket for the Fiorentina v Milan game as Vucinic has of winning a golden boot.

Lots of love,

He's an incredible talent. A player that you can really build the team around; somebody who would undoubtedly take Fiorentina to the highest level, I could see it being similar to the affect Riquelme had on Villareal.

But as you say I can't see it happening, plus I don't think he'd regard joining La Viola as representing much of a step up from Weder.

He will most probably move in the summer for in excess of 20m and possibly to Real Madrid.
Myles

Poochiem, make sure you climb the steps to the top of the Duomo. It's a great view of Florence, well worth it.
It was 6euro in 2005, not much of a queue either. Enter at the via Ricasoli side of the Duomo. Warning though, it's alot of steps to climb so don't go with any bags etc, just a camera, or you'll be sweating!

Also, to get into the Galleria Del Academia (Michelangelo's 'David') for free without queuing, go to the exit doors on via Ricasoli, and say the password "Amici di Moira", no other variation. Not sure if that is still the password, but it was in 2005. I was told it by an italian friend living in Florence who knew someone who worked in the Gallery. If you do, can you let me know if it still works so i know for myself, cheers.

one so-so penalty, but the 2nd won was a farce.   Mutu should be fined for diving

Shame on Mutu. That was worse than El Hadj Diouf at WC2002.
zeds

Can we focus on the positive here...Mutu chipped his penalty in very nicely
Mezz

Surely to fook the Fiorentina v Milan game will be on Five this Sunday?
Mezz

Silly me, it's Siena v Roma, the other 'stand-out' fixture of the weekend...

Anyway, better news with the signing of Manuel Da Costa, Portuguese left / centre back and long-time Chelsea target.

Bit strange that, seeing as the London-based Russian outfit have a first refusal deal on all PSV players, they haven't snatched him from under our noses...
ForzaFiori

Da Costa is a good signing. Any of you know much about Papa Waigo? Another of those wonderful part ownership deals!
zeds

I just see Arturo Lupoli is off to Treviso (fighting for relegation in Serie B). What a staggering fall for a player once heralded as the next best thing.
Guest

There're too many forwards in our squard and that push the new comers find no rooms for them.We play a 4-3-3 system with 2 side forwards and single striker which has been dominated by Vieri and Pazzini.Even D Cacia can't have a chance to step in now.

So i really cant see Waigo has a future here but i am looking ofrward to the growth of Vanden Borre who have joined Genoa. No more signing for the main striker position please unless he's better than Vieri and has greater prospect than Pazzini and i don't court Gilardino in thiis criteria.

Also,if we want to be a top team that can able to cope with the teams like Inter,Barca, keeping our best players is a must. And a ticket of CL would give a rise to our salary cap to do the job.
Guest

Fiorentina 0-1 Milan
Guest

good work this weekend getting some daylight between you and milan... to be honest, fio deserves the UCL, after the debacles that were the past 2 seasons, they really need that 4th place... milan, not so much haha
a team with such a deep squad and so on should have been up there with roma and inter,  its rought to see them coming back up to push fio...
also if they make uefa cup, maybe an italian side may win it, hasnt happened in quite some time
Mezz

It's only Milan's woeful home form that's allowed us to remain in the hunt for a CL place this long, but we really need to tighten up at the back for the rest of the season and ensure we capitalise on Milan's misfortune.

Don't quote me on this, but I can see Juve getting dragged in to a three-way fight between themselves, Milan and ourselves for the two CL places with the loser in that little battle getting a UEFA Cup spot along with Udinese which is the least the Zebrette deserve after the season they've had so far.
ForzaFiori

We've got a scrap on with Milan for 4th now, thankfully they no longer have games in hand and we're 3 points ahead. Got some tough games like Juve and Roma away to come but I'm reasonably confident.

Good first leg result in Norway on Thursday, just got to finish it off this week.
Guest

I know that people tend to disregard the UEFA cup and I also am guilty of it, but once theres an italian team left in it, I can see myself folllowing it all the way to end.. I mean its no UCL, but if Fio can win it, it would be a bit of reward for the past few seasons work...
Anyway, i agree about the defence, its a bit leaky compared to last year... to me the midfield isnt as potent in terms of their scoring also... Jorgensen has been pretty quiet as of late..
Fio is still possibly my favourite team to watch in Serie A, i cant say why but I just enjoy their games..
anyway, best of luck to them! milan will inevitably slip up also, so they have their destiny in their own hands

Everton in the next round of Uefa Cup if all goes well, should be a good game
Guest

We're on C5 on Sunday!

Hello from a newcomer! I posted this message earlier today on the Channel 4 Football Italia forum only to be told that virtually no-one goes on it anymore, however I was given a link to this forum which is why I'm here!

I was wondering if a Fiorentina fan/supporters club exists in the UK, curious to know if there is one. I've been following La Viola since 1993 ever since I bought the 7Up sponsored shirt in a branch of Allsports, seen them at an Anglo Italian cup game at Stoke and also in the memorable Champions League game at Wembley against Arsenal. If all goes to plan tonight then I'm hoping to watch them play Everton (easy for me to get to!) in the next round of the UEFA Cup (oops, kiss of death - either Brann or Rosenborg will put a spanner in the works now... but at this moment it's looking promising!). Also, does anyone know how to get tickets in the away end for European Cup games played in the UK, can you get them from the home club itself or would you have to get in touch with the away club? If anyone could provide any answers I'd be most grateful!
Guest

Nice result today and great to see liverani score!

Looks like the sternest test yet is the next round.. i think fio can win at home but its the away game that will make the difference... everton is a good team so it should be a cracker!

Im actually really looking fwd to this wknd, cant wait to go to the pub to watch the game vs roma.... the 2 most attrctive sides (and well maybe samp since they got cassano) in terms of quality of play..(my opinion)

Anyways, forza Viola! One of these days il make it to florence to check a game
Mezz

Welcome Seahawk!

Personally, I'm not aware of any UK based Viola supporters clubs. There used to be a London supporters club that advertised in Calcio Italia magazine, but I haven't picked up a copy for years so couldn't say if they're still operational.

In terms of tickets in the away end, I would presume you can only get them from the club directly. Some of the chaps on the Inter thread go to games fairly regularly, and there's a thread at the top of the main page where you can seek information about ticketing and so on.
Guest

Cheers for the welcome Mezz! I had heard of a London based fan club that was advertised in the programme of Arsenal-Fiorentina game at Wembley but that was nearly 9 years ago so I don't know if those details are still correct now, plus I have read recent editions Calcio Italia in WH Smiths and there's no mention there nowadays.

It'd be great to sit amongst the Fiorentina fans at Goodison but if it means sitting amongst the Everton fans then so be it. Anyone else planning to make it for this game? My main concern is that I hope this game is played on the Thursday, I'm meant to be going to a gig on that Wednesday!
ForzaFiori

About time we were back on C5, hopefully the Everton ties are televised here too. I can't wait for those games and watching the Voxpops of Everton fans after last nights game just got me more fired up.

Yeh welcome to the forum Seahawk, I'm pretty sure the supporters club Mezz was mentioning was/is called the Viola Club London.
Guest

got my fingers crossed for lo viola, as a Hellas tifosi there aren't many teams in 'A' we particularly like (indeed we pretty much hate you all) but us and Fiorentina have a 'twinning' between our fans (we also have one with lazio) so always look out for your results.

got to say, looked like you'd be challenging at one stage but your results just after the Udine game meant it wasn't to be.

As an outsider looking in, there's alot to be excited about at Fiorentina, you have alot of players coming into their prime and the next year or 2 should be interesting!

Where realistically should you guys finish this season?
Mezz

Welcome Zico.

I think we've got the core of a squad that could stay there or thereabouts for the next few seasons, but we need to add a couple of players in the summer (and make sure we don't lose any of our important players).

I would be delighted with 4th place this term. Milan are starting to look a threat again, and Juve are obviously still in the hunt even though they seem to be tiring a bit now.

We've still got to go to Juve and Inter, plus there's the rather tricky tie at Roma this afternoon, so I think 4th is the very best we can hope for...
Guest

4th is the very least you deserve if you ask me...

i cant believe it but it looks like im waiting up for the game! iv been up all night and the game is at 9am here, so i just figured i should wait out the extra hour for it....
my sleep patterns are absolutely horrendous...
im exactly 12 hours in reverse, when everyone is waking up i go to sleep,
anyway, goodluck fio, i hope you beat roma just to keep milan off your tail.... i also hope juve just fluffs the next few games so if anyone has to be out of the UCL places, its them..
Guest

zico wrote:

Fourth would be fantastic (third would be even better - still do-able after Juventus losing last night! ), though I've a horrible feeling Milan might just pip us right at the very end but I hope I'm wrong about Milan. Just as long as we keep getting results!
Guest

dissapointed for you guys today, i've only seen the score, but have the game taped and will watch it tonight, so  ant pass comment on the performance.

Obviously as a newcomer i don't really know what you guys think, but from what i've seen this season (please don't pan me) Roma are technically the best team in Europe for me. Their passing is almost perfect and their players individually are fanstastic (Siena aside). If they could sort those results out against teams they really should beat, they'd run Inter alot closer.

So all things considering, nothing to be too despondent about for you boys, i'm sure things will pick up again!
Mezz

Only an easy game away to Juve next Sunday.

Yay.

massive blow. but maybe one of the players noramlly reserved for the bench will see an opportunity to step up and become a hero.

what better stage do they need than the olimpico next sunday against del piero et al?
Mezz

Really unfortunate.

I'm sure Adri was looking forward to the Everton game in particular so he could attempt to silence the many doubters and critics he left behind in the UK. Alas, it's not to be.

Hopefully Pazzini will be able to step up and do the necessary. Last time he played in England, he scored a hat trick...
Guest

He did indeed - I was there, terrific hattrick it was too.

Perhaps Osvaldo will be given a bit of a chance as well, after Mutu's injury. I wasn't too impressed with Vieri on Sunday.
Mezz

I haven't really been impressed with Vieri for most of the season, Michael, but he was definitely miles off the pace against Roma.

With a choice between Pazzini, Osvaldo, Vieri, Waigo and Caccia for the front two on Sunday, it has to be Pazzini and Osvaldo that start in my opinion.

Actually, having now written all their names down I've just realised that we've got a ton of strikers on the books. There's also De Carmine and Lepiller in the youth team too...
Guest

Nice result yest, i know they just scraped it but it gives fio a slight edge on milan...

Is the the team has a wealth of striking talent but someone has to step up and replace mutu, the way he carries the team along is just superb... I would guess the man for the job will be pazzini but i really would love to see vieri hit a 'purple patch' (corny i know) and rifle in a few goals like he used to.

that game against juve is crucial this wknd.. if the team can manage to beat them , then theyl be biting their ass.. and it will make me a very happy man haha
ForzaFiori

Pazzini's suspended for the Juve game.
Good results last night, clawed back some points on Juve.
Curva Fiesole

I'm concerned that we aren't really finishing teams off - let's face it, 1-0 against a team from third from bottom at home is not a great result  (but then, neither is 1-1 away from home against the team 4th from bottom )

Should be optimistic for at least a point against Juve given their last couple of results - live on Five again this weekend, then with the UEFA Cup to come we won't have had this much TV exposure in the UK since the day we went bust!

Getting a result against Rubentus is not going to be easy, but in these grudge games you just never know. indeed as Hellas dont have a game on sunday i'll be wearing my metophorical viola scarf and cheering you boys on!!!
